HAY, OR... JOHN TAYLOR, Managing Director OTTAWA Manager. What the Chief of Pjlice, of Ottawa, the Solicitor for the Licence Commisf toners, of Ottawa, and some of the Graduates of the Ottawa Institute say about the efficacy of the Murphy Gold Cure:- Chief Constable's Office, John Taylor, Esq., Ottawa, March 19th, 1894. Manager Murphy Gold Cure Institute 219 Maria St., Ottawa. Dear Sir, — I have great pleasure in testifying to the great number of cures effected through the instrumentality of the Murphy Gold Cure treatment in the city of Ottawa. It has been the means of saving a great many young men in this city, and is one of the greatest blessings for the reformation of drunkards. Some of the hardest drinkers are not only now reformed, but are also great enthusiasts for the Cure, and are doing their best towards the cause of temperance. I wish you all success in your enterprise in Toronto, and if the same results are attained there as in Ottawa it will be a great and glorious deliverance for hundreds of confirmed drunkards. Yours very truly, (Sgd.) W. McVeity, Chief of Police. Mr. John Taylor, Manager Murphy Gold Cure Institute, Ottawa. Dear Sir, — Hearing that you are about starting a similar institution to that which you now preside over here, in Toronto, I drop you these few lines hoping that they may help you in your enterprise. As solicitor for the Liquor Licence Commissioners in Ottawa, I have had full knowledge of the workings of your institution since its commencement in Ottawa, It has been a wonderful success, and hundreds of persons that have taken the Murphy Gold Cure treatment can testify to its efficacy. I personally know over a hundred young men in this city to whom it has been a complete reformation, and who now occupy some of the most prominent official and business positions in this city, and who were amongst the hardest drinkers here. Hoping that the same success will attend your efforts in Toronto as in Ottawa, believe me. Your honest well-wisher, (Sgd) John C. Grant, Solicitor for Liquor License Commissioners, Ottawa. WHAT A FEW GRADUATES SAY! John Taylor, Esq. Manager Murphy Gold Cure Institute Ottawa, Dec. 12, 93. Dear Sir, You are well aware of the terrible condition I was in when 1 entered your Institute on the 23rd April last, over 8 months ago ; I owned nothing but the clothes I had on me ; not a stocking 10 my feet, my shoes all but worthless, my feet bligtered, nerves shattered, yet I had to work for whiskey. Food was of no use to me ; I could not swallow it ; liquor was my only desire. I had not a cent, nor a friend in the world, but one, and through his and your kindness I was taken into your Institute. My wife was obliged to look out for herself, as every cent I could get went quickly for whiskey. I would not then have gone into your Institute, had I not been informed that I could get all the whiskey I wanted for nothing, and I laughed to myself when I thought of the big contract you had undertaken, to give me whiskey till 1 stopped of my own accord, for I did not believe I would ever stop, and thought I had a picnic ; you can remember my surprise when on the third day my system refused whiskey ; how much I persisted in trying again ; how on the fourth day you chaffingly asked me, " Navin, will you have a drink?" I had to sorrowfully shakfc my head and say no ; I was beaten ; since then what has happened? I am again restored to my wife, have decent clothing for her and myself, have a good comfortable home well provisioned for the winter, have three pigs feeding in my stable and plenty of food for them, have the use of a horse with which I now earn my livelihood and plenty of food for him also, have money in my purse as I shewed you to-day. My health is excellent, my sleep refreshing, my mind easy, and peace with happiness and plenty the result of my cure for drunkenness now nearly eight months ago. I never think of drinking, my business sometimes necessitates my going into bar rooms, but my stay is short, such places have no pleasure for me, and I tell you honestly, Mr. Taylor, I would not take a glass of liquor for a deed of your Institute. Your own extreme kindness to me I can never forget ; your treatment of me could not have been better had I been rolling in wealth, and I know it is a satisfaction to you to realize that out of one of the worst drunkards in Ottawa, you have made me what I am. May God for ever help you and prosper both you and Father Murphys' Institute is the earnest prayer of yours, sincerely, P. NAVIN, Ottawa. • Ottawa, March 28th, 1894. Mk. John Taylor, Manager Murphy Gold Cure Institute, Ottawa, Ont. My Dear Sir, — Knowiny^ you are always pleased to hear ot the well doing of your "Graduates", I must tell you what happened to me last week. I am now six months a graduate from your institute, since which time I have not had the least desire for any alcohol. On Thursday last, while in my shop, I felt thirsty and picked up a tumbler which appeared clean, went to the tap and filled it with water and drank it off. To my surprise, the same taste came to me as did when you put the desire for liquor from me six months ago. I could not understand it, but on enquiry I found out that one of the men had a bottle of beer, the dregs of which in the glass gave me the nausea I refer to, -and which not only nauseated me, but made me sick the entire afternoon. I am pleased to know the effect such a simple thing had on me, and when I take into consideration the fact that for twenty-four years I had drank, and drank hard, it is most astonishing that in three weeks you could not only, by the Murphy Gold Cure treatment, take away all desire for liquor from me, but that after so many months, the simple act above referred to should have such an efierx on me. With best wishes, believe me. Yours very truly, Alexander Thompson. Hundreds of testimonials can be produced from all over the Dominion testifying to the benefits derived from the various Murphy Gold Cure Institutes, by patients who have undergone the treat- ment, which is simple, not hard to bear, and takes from them all desire for a poison which is sinking thousands to an untimely grave. We cordially invite clergymen of all denominations, temperance advocates. Christian workers, ladies and gentlemen to visit our Institution, where they will find everything quiet, respectable and plain, and our Institutes conducted on strict business principles, combined with charity, and where full explanations w ill be cheer- fully given.
