Adapted to all varieties of Steam Engines and fitted with special valve chambers to suit any style of Gas En- gine of the throttling type. The valve throw of this Governor being adjustable i'^dependently of the radial throw of the Governor Balls or the normal speed of the engine, the closest possible regulation can be obtained for any style of engine or motor to which a throttling Governor can be used. The MONARCH GOVERNOR Is built with automatic safety stop, speed adjuster and valve lever, and pos- sesses all the elements of a first-class Governor. It-^ The most sensitive and the quickest acting Governor made in the world. Neat in design, first- class in workmanship and material. Accurately fitted to gauges and all parts in- terchangeable. THE MONARCH GOVERNOR, Manufactured by THE MONARCH GOVERNOR cS- MACHINE CO., INCORPORATED, 740 to 750 East Washington Street, IINDIAINAPOLIS, IINDIAINA, U. S. A. The Object of the Monarch Governor «S-^./-- — ■'*'*HERE are at the present time many different types of engines, all working under varying conditions, and it has been found to be practically impossible up to the present time to provide a single type of Governor which would . successfully govern all types of engines. The object accomplished in producing this Governor is its adaptability to all types of Engines, a Governor in which the throw of the valve may be adjusted independently of the throw of the Governor Balls or other speed controlled mechanism, without affecting the normal speed of the engine, so that for a .'jiven radial movement of the Governor Balls, the valve throw may be made greater or less, according to the peculiar conditions resulting from the particular type of the engine or from the peculiar circumstances under which the engine may be working. The automatic stop of this Governor is positive and is adjustable to any angle of the driving belt whether horizontal or vertical. DIRECTIONS FOR ATTACHING AND USING THE MONARCH OOVERNOR Attaching: In taking the Governor apart for the purpose of attaching the valve chamber to the engine, the top should be lifted off as true as possible, so as not to bend the valve stem or injure the valve. Never put any packing between the valve chamber and the top, unless it be a ring of paper. Arrange pulley diameters to run engine the desired speed; be sure that pi eys are true, and use a thin, even belt for driving the Governor. Pack stuffing box as lightly as possible so as not to bind the stem. If the valve sticks on account of uneven expansion or strain, ease off a little with fine emery cloth. Adjust idler pulley of safety stop to engage driving belt ; be sure to keep the weight arm in a horizontal position no matter what the angle of the belt may be. Keep Governor well oiled. Starting: After starting the engine, the throw of the Governor valve should be increased as much as possible without racing the engine, in order to get the closest possible regulation obtainable under the conditions which that particular engine may be running. This is accomplished by moving the valve link out along the notches on the bar of the upper lever, thus increasing the valve throw. If, on the other hand, the engine races or runs irregular, the valve throw should be decreased just enough to steady the engine, by moving the valve link in along the bar of the upper lever. For heavy duties the throw of the valve may be increased far beyond the normal valve throw in the average governor without affecting the radial throw of the Governor Balls or the speed of the engine. Next adjust the speeder if necessary. style C. Screwed Connectious. Cluaa A. With Automatic Stop, Speed Adjuster and Valve Lever. ClaHH B. With Speed Adjuster and Valve Lever. Style O. Style E.
