TORONTO: PRINTED BY HUNTBR, ROSE & CO., 25 WELLINGTON ST. WEST. 1876. H!>68 PREFACE. The copiousness of the " Table of Contents " well nigh precludes the rit'cessity of any preface to this Compilation, yet a word^or two may not be oui of place. Tlie work is more especially intended for that portion of the reading public .'/ho have been accustomed from childhood upwards to regard the Bible as a Revelation from Almighty God, and who cappose, in all sin- cerity, that the Clergy of the various denominations of our day are en- gaged in the great wurk of unfolding its celestial truths to mankind. We bespeak a careful perusal of the Testimonies herein adduced at the hands of such, so that after " Examination had," they may be the better fitted to comply with the Apostolic injunction : " Prove all things, hold fast that which is good." " To the Law and to the Testimony" is an admonition as necessary to daj as when enunciated by the Hebrew Pro- phet nearly 3,000 years ago, an J one which will remain in force so long as Truth and Error co-exist in our world. To " try the Spirits (or Teachers) whether they are of God " would be but a solemn mockery to every earnest anxious mind apart from the capacity so to do. That this collation of Testimonies may assii^t some in giving heed, and rendering obedience to the Divine Commands, is the sole .aim and earnest desire of THE COMPILER. li ' (I i. P.S.— The "Errata LiHt " in hhis Edition is rather a formidablo one. It .iriBes not from any remissnesH on the PrinterH* part, but from the presswre of buaineHB, conjoined with poor health, under which the compiler's friend at the Capital laboured while [•assinjf it through the Press. In future issues thin will be rectified. ■« CONTENTS. MK. WOLLASTON'W SERMON. Pidl.
