We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love ; to remember each other in prayer ; to aid each other in sickness and distress ; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech ; to be slow to take ofii'ence, but always ready for reconcilia tion, and mindful of the rules of our Saviour to secure it without delay. We believe that those whom God has called to "labor in word and doctrine " should devote their time and gifts to this one work, but inasmuch as there has been, and is apt to be, unfaithfulness in contributing to their support by the members of many churches, much to the incon- venience of the pastors, and much to the disgrace of the cause of Christ before the Morld, and as e(iuality in bear- ing the burdens of the Church is plainly enjoined on all Christians, in the New Testament, covetousness being by the Holy Spirit pronounced idolatry ; therefore it is now distinctly declared to be the bounden duty of every mem- ber to give of his substaiice, for the support of the preach- ing of the (Jospel, in proportion as (iod has blessed him with ability.
