 A Committee comprising: members of tlii' City Council, members of the Hoard of 
 Trade, and a number of other Gentlemen, inhabitants of this City, have attain had under tlu'ir 
 consideration, the serious burdens incurred by mnnicijtulities, in pronmting the constrnction of 
 Railways. Sueli burdens have necessarily increased the lo(!al taxes, and in consequence have 
 a most discouraging!; cltect upon the prosperity of many Municipalities. 
 
 The inhabitants of this and other Municipalities, petitioned Parliament for some act of 
 relief last year, and the House of Assembly, by consent of the Government, appointed a Connnittce 
 to iu<|uire into the matter. 
 
 That Committee will resume its sittings at the approaching meeting of the House. 
 
 It is, however, very necessary, that the pttention of the Legislature should be again drawn 
 to the 6ul)ject, and the undersigned is therefore instructed to respectfidly re(piest that you v, ill 
 submit for adoption the accompanying form of petition, 'oy your Council or by the lidiabitants, 
 and forward it to your representative, with the re(piest that he will give it his best attention 
 and support. 
 
 It wonld 1)0 of great advantage, were yon to apjioint a dciiutatitni of one or more 
 gentlemen to proceed to (Quebec (when the lioiisi- meets) that united action may lie tuktii 
 to secure the object in view.
