Nearly 4.000 Machines in Successful* Operation. THE mnmm m mtm n. DBTRDIT, MICH. TJPTER undergoing the severest tests in all parts / of the United States and Canada for more than fourteen years, the Combination Gas Machine is universally pronounced to be THE MOST RELIABLE, THE SAFEST, MOST ECONOMICAL,' THE MOST SIMPLE and, .THE MOST DURABLE Apparatus for the purpose of illumination ever before introduced. There is no Danger in its management. It emits no unpleasant or unhealthy smell or odor. It is far less troublesome than lamps, requiring no more attention than an ordinary clock. Gas made with this machine costs from 75 cents to $1.50 per thousand cubic feet, or less than ONE HALF OF ONE CENT per hour FOR EACH BUR- NER, according to the cost of the material (Gaso- line) from which the gas is made. A Building can be lighted with from one to FIVE HUNDRED burners, with less trouble and skill than is required to take care of one kerosene lamp. ^»S fS4^ '.: 4 Birr THE BEST There is no fire or heat used to make the gas, and the time required to attend to a Machine for an ordinary building will not exceed ten min- utes per week. By using gas made with this machine the dan- ger by fire and accidents attending the use of kerosene lamps is avoided. The WEIGHT CAN BE WOUND UP WHILE THE LIGHTS ARE BURNING WITHOUT EXTINGUISHING THEM. We make a small machine especially adapted to farm residences, small stores and places of busi- ness, at prices so low that all can avail themselves of this great convenience and luxury. We make machines of all sizes, from ten to ONE THOUSAND or more lights, as required. Where buildings are not piped for gas, we can furnish and lay the necessary pipes for the distri- bution of the gas at a trifling cost from cellar to garret, without injury to the walls, and but slight annoyance to the inmates. We can furnish gas fixtures of the latest and best designs, from the best manufacturers, at low PRICES. Owing to the peculiar construction of our ma- chine, and the absence of gearing, it can rarely get out of order, and NEvr^ wear out. In view of these undeniable facts, it becomes AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY To country merchants and farmers, giving them a safe and brilliant light at a minimum cost of coal oil, at the same time insuring them against dan- ger, loss, annoyance, and in many cases, death, from explosions of coal oil lamps. $ -•SH^ ?s r BUY THE BEST. To directors of public institutions, school trustees, clergymen, religious organizations, manufacturing corporations, owners of theatres, opera houses, hotels, and heads of families, securing to all such absolute immunity from danger and annoyance. Pro- prietors of laundries should consult their own interests, and write us for particulars. €H^ n BUY THE BEST, { I U/E CELL SPECIML RTTENTWN TO THE FOLLOmiNG : It is well known to those interested in the man- facture and sale of gas machines, that hydro-car- bon gas cannot be used to advantage and satisfaction through meters, and that there has hitherto existed a difficulty in supplying buildings occupied by dif- ferent parties with gas from one machine. This difficulty is now overcome by a newly invented Carbureter, for which we have obtained letters patent in the United States and Canada. By the use of this Carbureter, two or more parties can be supplied with gas, by the use of one Air Pump, without any interference with each other in the quantity or cost of the gas consumed, each party having to pay only for th« gas he con- sumes. We are the SOLE PBOPBIETOBS of this Car- bureter, and no other Gas Machine Com- pany Is authorized to use it, and are hereby given notice that we shall prosecute all infringements to the full extent of the law. During the past four years we have been manu- facturing and putting in this improved Carbureter, with the best and most satisfactory results, in vari- ous parts of the country, and in some cases as many as ten consumers are being supplied with gas by a single machine, and each party paying only for the gas he consumes. Merchants and others having stores, or other buildings in close proximity, can by jointly pur- chasing a machine with this Carbureter, light their combined places at a much less cost than they could do by purchasing separate machines. Dear Sirs— The Two Hundred and Fifty Light Gas Machine put into our factory by your Company gives us entire satisfaction. Our work requires n. strong, steady light, and in this respect we feel especially pleased. Since putting in the machine we have had our Insurance rates reduced half of one per cent. This will save us, on amount of insurance we carry, given me thorough satisfaction. I confess that I rather begrudged paying out so mu'ch money for light, but now I would not be without it for twice its cost, as I consider it one of the greatest of luxuries. We have no trouble in getting a steady and brilliant hght-whether we are using one burner or all. These are the first business places in our town lighted by gas, and the difierence is so marked that we predict that our leading houses will not be content to continue on with the annoyance and poor lights given by oil lamps. We desire to express our appreciation of the liberal manner of dealing your house has shown in giving greater capacity than you contracted .to furnish. We consider it quite up to the representations, and have no hesita- tion in recommending it to those who are in want of gas machines. We might also state that the work of placing and fitting up the machine and connections was very satisfactory, inasmuch as you sent a thoroughly competent and gentlemanly mechanic to do it, who was most painstaking and careful that everything should be right. Gentlemen— At the Oakland we have two of your gas machines in use, and they furnish all the light used on the premises. This mode of lighting is peculiarly adapted to buildings of this character. ^ We get a light superior in quality to coal gas • It being a whiter light and at about half the ex- pense. I can see no reason why it is not as safe as any gas. I prefer it to any light that I know of, and I am familiar with various kinds in use in this part of the world. Eespectfully^ H. d'sOUTHWICK. I am happy to inform you that the gas machine gives every satisfaction. I like its clear, bright, yet «oft light, as it is not so hard on the eyes as other lights. It works equally well in the switches as on the platform or in the station ; everybody is pleased with it, and I find no trouble whatever in running it. I have to acknowledge receipt of the pipe wrench. Yours truly. J. STRACIIAN, Agent G. W. R. Detroit, Mich., July 13, 1883. The Combination Gaa Machine Co., Detroit, Mich. Gentlemen — In reply to your favor of this date, will say that we have had in constant use for the past three and a half years one of your fifty- light gas machines for lighting the Detroit Water Works engine buildings, and it gives me great pleasure to say that the machine has given perfect satisfaction in all respects. We are obliged to burn a large number of lights every night, all night, and we find the machine reliable, safe and economical and no trouble to manage. I can most heartily recommend your gas machine to any one requiring artificial light for any purpose. Yours truly, JOHN S. EDWARDS, __^ Chief Engineer. IN CONCLUSION, We have only to add that our having in many towns as many as from five to twenty machines, Ought to uc suiucicnt eviuence that they are giving entire satisfaction, and sold entirely on their merits. ©^ -l»-W m O O 2 OD > o > at > o z z m O P cr E t3 OB o p' o C3 O 6 He o 5 c d 1"^ a » « 2 5 a , ?
