To-day Lans downe Park comprises over 51 acres and is valued at $257.23. wh„e the buildings are among the uiost beautiful, modern ami up-to-date m America. It will thus be seen that in this comparatively short space of time one of the city's assets has been raised in value by nearly a quarter of a million dollars by the efforts of public spirited citizens who tendered their services gratis. As to the benefit to the surrounding country it needs only to be said that neany $107,000 in cash has been distributed in 6 tic E: SCi prizes since the inauguration of the fair, the bulk of which went to the agricultural classes throughout the surrounding country As to the educational advantages, these can hardly be estimated.* Once a year there is a mighty gathering of all sorts and con- ditionsofmenfromall sections, new machinery is examined, new Ideas are conceived, new methods and experiences com- pared and the result is an irresistable incentive to get out of the old rut and come up on to the higher plane of 20lh century pro- gressiveness. ' *^ Who then dares say that such an institution is not deserving of patronage when all things are taken into consideration? The wonkier is that the grounds are large enough to accom- modate the crowds who would naturally be expected to flock hither to participate in the pleasures and profits of the annual (entral Canada Exhibition. As to the special attractions, nearly $9,000 was spent last year in securing new and novel features, while this year the expenditure will be much more with a corresponding improve- ment in the programme.
