For the purpose of advancing and maintaining that ^ unanimity, society and goodfellowship with each other, which ought ever to distinguish Britons, it is agreed that the Members of this Society shall assemble at some convenient house in the Town of Halifax, four times in every year, viz. — the first Tuesday in January— the first Tuesday in April— the first Tuesday in July— and the first Tuesday in October. On any particular emergency, the President shall be invested with power to call a Meeting of the Society, "^giving at least three days notice to the members. Every Member so called shall be possessed of the same power in distributing of charity, as at said Quarterly Meeting. RULE XX. EvEur Member of this Society who does not pay up his Arrears, at the expiration of Four Quarters, after be- ing properly notified, shall no longer be considered a member thereof. RULE XXI. All persons proposed to become Members of this Society, shall be balloted for, and unless there are five black balls against him, shall be admitted. 10 Hi? RULE XXII. The foregoing Rules shall be deemed the Fund^ mental Articles and Rules of the Society, and shall nc,: be altered or abrogated, otherwise than by the conser.t of two-thirds of the Members present, at any Quarterly or Anniversary Meeting. ■ In addition to the foregoing, the following RULEL were passed on the 8th January^ 1839. 1. The Standard Bearers shall be furnished with Sashes passing over the shoulder, and having a socket for the staff of the Banner— of such design, preserving the National Colours of England, as the Society may approve, which shall be provided at the expense of, and belong to the Society. 6. On every regular night of Meeting, the St. George's Banner shall be displayed over the President's Chair, and the St. George's Ensign over the Chair of the Vice President. The Office Bearers at every Quarterly Meeting shall wear their Badge of Office— a Silk Sash passing over the shoulder,— of the National colours, and. approved by the Society. 6. Every Member of the Society shall be pro* vided with an Emblem of the Design approved by the Society, and which on all public occasions at which the Society shall appear in order, shall be displayed on the left breast, to be paid for by each Member.
