 ill the ration for nearly every claaa of live Btock. In Uonniark and Swe<lon, where 
 the dairy and baeon indii»triet» have reached a very hi(jrh state of perfur-tion. field 
 roots e«i8titute a largo part of the ration for both cattle and liogK. 
 
 It is true that in Ctinada farmers niid stock feeder* are rapidly reiiliring tln> 
 viiliie of Iiidinn cirn ensilage us u feed, with the result that Indiun corn in being 
 n;ore widdy grown each year. Indian corn ensilage is without doubt a very valuabli' 
 feed and is usuidlv n little more concentrated thwo the nvenigc field root. Vet, when 
 wo cottsider the fact that ten to twelve pounds of field roots conlnining one pound 
 of flry matter is t-fiual in feeding value to 8 pounds of ensilag<>. one pound of Indian 
 <orn meal, 1 1'o p<i!uid8 of oats, or, 2i pounds of u:ixcd clover Iwy, it is at once appar- 
 ent that an avernge crop of field root* is ei|u«lly protitable. if not more so. than a like 
 IMP of Indian corn grown for ensilage, or in fact any other crop grown for stock feed.

 Sehrled Vellnw (Ihhe is a yellow, Kloliiilnr \ariety nf fairly uniform size and
