J ^ \j In presenting this International Stamp Director}- to the Phil- atelic world, we would suggest that they praise what is good and pass over whatever may appear to them to mar its perfection, as it was not compiled for criticism but to bring within the reach of every reader, the names of parties to whom they may send their stamps mthout one thought of suspicion, and of those to whom the word honesty means keep what is not your own, and that which cannot be bought at any price— a name— is worthless. Our advertisements stated that we would have the names of about 1000 collectors and 200 dealers, owing to unthought of and unlooked for circumstances, we have been unable to arrive at that number of collectors, although we are not far short of it, but we have given you the full number of dealers. The arrangement will be found to be as perfect as possible. The countries running alphabetically followed by the names in like order. We would commend our advertisers to the reader --g honest, straightforward and trustworthy parties, able and \> /'j ig at all times to supply, and assist you in the most minute particular. We would warn you against the irresponsible dealers, and dealess in counterfeits, as swindlers of the worst type. We take this opportunity of thanking the few who have assist- ed us with this work, and also our advertisers for their liberal patronage, which we hope will be returned them fourfold by the reader. Third Yeair of Publication. JOSEPH J. CASEY, - - Editor and Proprietor^ BOX 1698, NEW YORK, U. S. A. This is the only paper in the United States not published by a stamp-dealer, and is the only paper recognized by the National Phil- ateheal Society of New York. It contains accurate descriptions of all new issues, very copiously illustrated in the best stvle of the art. It contains inii)artial criticisms of all books or catalo'Tues devoted to stamp-collecting. It has two pages of advertisemenrs from the most reliable dealers and publishers in all parts of the world, offerino- to collectors the best means of knowing where to buy their stamps ° It seeks to protect beginners from frauds, swindles, and dealers in coun- terfeit stamps, by reserving a portion of the paper every month to their exclusive benefit. This part is called " The Cemetery." in which all objectionable parties are cremated free of cost and their ashes marked by a lasting tombstone. To the amateur who counts his stamps by the thousands it is particularly valuable, as it chronicles all varieties ot stamps, envelopes, or postal cards. Its revenue depart- ment IS conducted by Mr. Walter Lee Brown (" Sax Doux ") the only authority in the United States in such matters, and is, without exception, the best published. Among its contributors is John K. Tiffany, Esq. Plis name alone means si.::cess to any paper fortunate enough to receive it No expense has been spared to make it the best and most reliable" of its kind, in proof of which may be cited the fact that all forei-m papers quote Its articles. oil" Stamp-dealers cfinnot have a better medium for their advertise- ments, as the publisher has fione of his own to detract from those of his customers. Mews, Bickj, Bell & Co., are Sole Apm s for tie Doiilos. AGENTS WANTED in other parts of the world at 20 per cent Commission.
