 ballot boxes shall be examined and secured 
 previous to use by the Secretary and one member

 boxes shall not be removed until they have been 
 opened and examined by the Secretary in the 
 presence of at least two members of the Commit- 
 tee. The resuk of the ballot as regards each 
 Candidate shall be immediately entered opposite 
 their names respectively on the list, and signed 
 by the Scrutineers. Each Candidate must have 
 at least thirty votes to constitute his election, and 
 one black ball in ten shall exclude. In the event 
 of any Candidate not having the required number 
 of votes his name will be placed at the top of the 
 list for the next ballot. Any Candidate who 
 shall have been twice black balled, will not be 
 eligible to be again proposed. 
 
 VI. — On the admission of each new member, 
 the Secretary shall notify the same to him, and 
 furnish him with a printed copy of the rules. He 
 

 shall also request him to remit the amount of his 
 eutrance fee and subscription to the Treasurer. 
 
 ^ VII.— The entrance money, payable on admis- ^ 
 sion to the Club, shall be Twenty Pounds, and -'^"'K 
 the annual subscription Five Pounds. All sub- '"■"'"°"' 
 scriptions shall be payable on the first day of 
 January, in each year, after which day no notice 
 of withdrawal shall exempt the retiring member 
 from the payment of tlie current year's subscrip-

 admitted on assigning to the Committee reasons 
 which they may deem satisfactory for his failure

 XII. — -Any member leaving the Province, may 
 on written application to the Committee, but not 
 otherwise become a '"' Supernumerary Member," 
 and, during his absence, be exempt from the

 for the year in which he departs from the 
 Province, ami for that in which he returns to it, 
 and shall be inunediately admitted to all the 
 privileges ot the Club, on his acquainting the 
 Committee with his return.

 fifteen dollars, payable on the first of January and 
 first of July, and also to the Constitution and 
 Regulations of the Club -enerally-such Mem-

 uo case before, will be admitted to all the 
 advantages of the Club, except that of beincr

 XIV. — Each Camlidate as a Privileged Mem- 
 ber must be so deHijrnated in the book and also 
 on the lists of Candidates for election posted in 
 the public rooms, and no Candidate to be a 
 privileged member shall be placed on the said list 
 unless his name shall have been submitted for the 
 approval of the Committee, one week before the 
 day of ballot. 
 
 XV. — The Committee shall have the power to 
 admit as "" Honorary Members," the Lieutenant 
 (rovernor of the Province, the General command- 
 ing the Troops in this garrison, and the Admiral 
 commanding the Fleet on this station, such 
 Honorary Members to pay no entrance fee or 
 subscription ; and they may also admit to the 
 privileges of the Club, for such periods as they 
 may from time to time tliink fit, any strangers of 
 distinguished rank and position visiting this city 
 to whom it may seem proper to offer such a 
 c(»m])linu'nt, but the resolution to admit them 
 must be agreed to by a majority of the Com- 
 mittee. 
 
 XVI. — Any member wishing to introduce u 
 friend temporarily visiting Halifax, and not 
 lesiding in the Province, as an Honorary Mem-

 ments stationed in this garrison, or on returning 
 from general leave of absence, may be admitted 
 by the committee under this rule, for fourtc-n 
 days, or if they signify their wish to become pri- 
 vileged members and have been dufy proposed 
 and seconded, until they can be ballotted for ; but 
 any officer before taking advantage of this' last 
 proviso will be required to pay to the Treasurer 
 his subscription in advance, which, however, will 
 be returned to him in the event of the ballot prov-

 XXI. — Any member whose dues are all paid 
 sludl be at liberty to withdraw from the Club on 
 his written application to that effect, sent in to 
 the Committee. 
 
 XXII. — Any member who shall withdraw, 
 resign, or be expelled, shall cease to be a member 
 of the Club, and shall forfeit, ipao facto, all right 
 or claim thereon, or in, or to its property or 
 funds, and any member who shall be expelled

 XXV^. — If any new Rule or alteration of an 
 old one be duly proposed at the first regular 
 Annual Meeting, and approved of and confirmed 
 at the second regular Annual Meeting that day 
 fortnight, by two-thirds of the members then 
 present whatever the numbers may be, the same 
 shall be considered as adopted by the Club ; but 
 with this exception, no new Rule or alteration of 
 a general Rule shall ever be made without the 
 sanction of an absolute majority of two-thirds of 
 the members present at a special General Meet- 
 ing, and forty members at least voting on the 
 occasion, and twenty eight days notice being 
 given ; nor unless the proposed new Rule or 
 alteration of an old one has been posted up in the 
 usual place in the public rooms, twenty eight

 Club must be stated by letter signed by the mem-
