Any person of respectable character, being recommended by a Member, will be admitted as one, by pitying his proportion of entry money, and yearly contribution lor the current year; the yearly contribution is Five Shillings, paid in advance every 25th January. II. When a member has j aid Twenty successive yearly contri- butions, or Five Pounds from the date of his admission, he is then entitled to the use of the Library free of any expense, save his equal proportion of Librarian's salary, room rent, replacing and repairing Books, and such like other incidental charges, as may be necessary for the maintenance of the Institution. III. Any person or member may dispose of his right by sale or otherwise, to any person whoie character accords with the first article. IV. At any period posterior to the demise of a member, the Heir may establish his claim, and if in minority, he shall be made only to pay the debts due by his predecessor at his death, during the same, but as soon as he attains major, he shall commence and pay the regular yearly contributions, ay and until his predeces- sor's sum of five pounds shall be made up, &c. y. The superintendence and direction of the Institution shall be invested in a Committee of Twelve 'Curators, every Curator must have been a member for at least thirteen calendar months previous to his appointment. No Cnrator shall continue in of- fice more than two years at one time, the senior six shall retire from the exercise of their functions every year, and their succes- sors be appointed in the following manner: Three shall be nomi- nated from the Roll of Members in the order of admission, and the other three having the greatest number of votes shall be con- sidered as duly elected. In cases where the number of votes are equal, the member first in the roll of admission, shall have the preference. Any vacancy occurring among the Curators shall be supplied from the roll of members in rotation. VI. The Curators shall meet upon the first Saturday of the month following the Annual General Meeting, and upon the first Saturday of March, May, July, September, and November, as _L I > also at such other times as a majority of the Curators, or the Pre- I sident, may determine. ^ * VII. Five Curators shall bo a quorum, and the Librarian at all | times to act as a Curator. ] VIII. The Curators shall, at their first Meeting, elect a Presi- dent and Treasurer for the current year, out of their own nuni- J her, and a Librarian from the whole list of Members. IX. The Treasurer shall keep a regular account of Receipts I and Disbursements, and, with proper vouchers, shall produce the 1 same to the Curators when required, and also previous to the i Annual General Meeting, be docketed. ' X. The Curators shall satisfy themselves with respect to the state of the Books when they are committed to their cliarge, a;Kl shall, at the end of the year, be accountable for all losses and ■ damages that may have occurred during that period. \ XI. Any person lending a book belonging to the Library, shall be subjected to whatever Fine may be determined upon by t!jo Curators ; if lent for emolument or hire, he shall be expelled from the Society. I XII. When a book is written upon, or othcrwi,^o a!ni;;Gcl, the Librarian shall lay it before the Curators, who sliall ascertain the Fine to be paid by the person in whose custody it was when * damaged. If it be lost, or so injured as in the opinion of the Cu- 'I raters to be unfit for the Librar)', it shall be replaced by an ^ equally good edition of the whole, or such an equivalent paid in i money as may be satisfactory to the Curators. | XIII. Any member retaining a volume or volumes longer than .' the time specified for perusal, shall pay a Fine of Six pence per * volume, but shall be allowed to draw in his turn, if late in bring- ing in their books, one penny per volume. XIV. Any member refusing to act as a Curator, when legally appointed, shall forfeit two shillings and six pence. XV. When a Curator fails to attend a Meeting, when duly . warned, unless a satisfactory excuse is assigned, he shall be lia- ^ ble to a B^ine not exceeding six pence. » XVI. XIX. The Uamsay Library Society shall be Indissoluble, unless by the unanimous consent of the members. XX. A Book shall be kept in the Library, in which every member may insert the name of such Publication as he chooses to 1)0 brought into the Library ; besides the title, he shall add the nuniber of volumes, the size, the prices, and in case the liook he unknown, an estimate of its merits. No member to mark more thr.n six Volumes unless i)elonging to one vvork. To fur- nish an opportunity for enquiring into the merits of the books proposed, this list shall be closed four weeks previous to the Annual General Meeting, but the said meeting reserves to itself the power of substituting what shall be deemed a better work, for any one upon the list, provided such substituted work be of the same description, treating precisely of the subject or subjects, the Meeting is also empowered to make a selecii:**^ from any work that is, or may be proposed. XXIL The Curators are empowered to accept Books in lion of Entries, or any sum of yearly contribution, though such booki have not been voted for at the Annual General Meeting. XXIIL The rights of members indebted the Society, shall be suspended till payment is made. The Library opens at 12, and commence drawing Books at 2 o'clock, from the first Saturday of November to the first Saturday of April.
