I ?• n I EULES. 1.— This Club shall be called ''The Ottawa Rowing Club." 2 — The colors of the Club shall be Navy Blue and Cardmal Red, and the Club Uniform shall consist of a Navy Blue jacket, trimmed with Cardinal Red, white flannel trowsers, and a white guernsey, trimmed wHh the CiuT» colors; and a Navy Blue cap, with Cardinal i.'ed bars, or a straw hat with the Club colons, and Naw Blue and Cardinal Red Striped Sv.^ckinfjjs. 3. — The Officers of the Club shall consist of a President, two Vice-Presidents, Captain Treasu- rer, and a Secretary, assisted by an Executive Committee of seven members, all Officers to be ex'officio members of the same; all of whom shall be elected annually from among the members of the Club; at the first General Meeting in yach year. The names of all candidates for office, together with the names of their several pro- posers and seconders shall be posted in the Club Room, at least one week before election; in the case of a vacancy occurring by the death or resignation of any officer or^committeeman, the same shall be filled up at the next general meeting, after the usual notice has been given. h 6 4. — The members of the Club shall be divided into three classes, viz., Life, Active and Honorary; Life and Active Members only to have the use of Club boats, or to take part by voting or otherwise in the management of the affairs of the Club. 5. — The entrance fee shall be five dollars and the annual subscription five Dollars for Active members, and five Dollars for Honorary mem- bers, without entrance fee, payable at the first General Meeting in each year; and no person shall be entitled to the privileges of a member until he shall have paid his subscription. Any gentleman may become a Life Member upon the payment of Twenty Dollars, after being elected in the usual manner. 6. — Any member failing to pay his subscrip- tion witlim one month after being notified in writing by the Treasurer of the same being due, shall have his name posted in the Club Room as a defaulter, and still failing to pay within one month from the date of such posting, shall be struck ofi:' the roll of members; and should such person ^ish at any time to again become a member of the Club, he must first pay all arrears and then be elected in the usual manner; and any member who may leave the city pre- vious to his subscription becoming due, shall be considered as being desirous of continuing a member of the Club, unless he shall notify the Secretary to the contrary, but his subscription shall not be payable until six months after the first General Meeting. 36 divided tive and s only to :e part by 3nt of the [oUars and for Active :ary mem- it the first no person a member bscription. 3 Member lars, after 3 subscrip- lotified in being due, !lub Boom within one r, shall be lould such become a st pay all al manner; e city pre- le, shall be ntinuing a notify the iibscription is after the 7. — Any gentleman wishing to become a member of the Club, must be proposed and seconded by two members of the Club, and the rame of the Candidate, with his address and addition, shall be posted by the Secretary in a conspicuous place in the Club Eoom, with the name of his proposer and seconder, for at least one week, and if no objection be taken to his admission, at the expiration of that time the Committee shall proceed to elect him, an unani- mous vote being necessary for that purpose; but in the event of an objection to any such can- didate being made to the Committee, his election shall be by ballot, at the next monthly meeting of the Club, one black ball in four to exclude. 8. — All members of regularly organized Amateur Rowing Clubs in Great Britain, Canada, and the United States, not resident in Ottawa, shall be admissible as privileged members during a period not exceeding two weeks, on being introduced by a member. 9. — Any member may introduce a friend resi- dent at a distance of twenty miles from Ottawa for a period not exceeding two weeks, provided the name of such person, with the written recommendation of two members, be submitted to^ and approved of by, one member of the Executive Committee. Such approval to be posted in the Club Room. 10. — A General Meeting of the Club shall be held at the Club Rooms, on the r 8 in every month, at and the Committee shall meet every at . The Annual Meeting shall take place on the first in , in every year. 11. — No meeting of the Clab shall be com- petent to transact Club business unless a quorum be present, such quorum to consist of not less than seven members; and at a Committee Meeting, a quorum shall consist of not less than five members. 12. — Any three members shall have the power of calling a Special Meeting of the Club, upon acquainting the Secretary, in writing, of such their desire, and the object thereof ; and the Secretary shall give notice of the same, with the object thereof, to all the members of the Club. 18. — The Executive Committee shall have the power to suspend any member who may be guilty of ungentlemanly conduct, or who may trans- gress the rules, until the next monthly meeting of the Club, in whom alone the power to expel shall be vested. All disburse- ments to be made by cheque, signed by the Treasurer, after being certified by the Chairman of Committee. 16. — Two Auditors shall be appointed by the Club at the last General Meeting in each year, to examine the accounts for the current Club year and report thereon to the Club at its first general meeting. 17. — A full list of the members of the Club shall be printed and framed, and hung up in the Club Eooms by the first of June in each year. 18. — No alteration shall be made in the Con- stitution unless at a General Meeting of the Club, and notice of such proposed alteration shall be posted in the Club Eoom for at least two weeks previous to such meeting. 19. — Out of the Club funds such boats shaU be provided for the use of members as the Com- mittee shaU deem fit. 20. — All boats belonging to the Club shall be under the control and management of the Cap- tain who shall also have control of members when in the boats, and whose duty it shall be to select and superintend the training of any crews which may represent the Club at any Regatta or other race, but whose choice shall oe subject to the approval of the Executive Committee. rr 10 n 21. — The Executive Committee shall have control and management of all Club races. 22. — No Club races shall take place for money prizes. 28. — In the event of any Club crew winning a money prize, at any Race or Regatta, the money so won shall be paid into the funds of the Club and the Club shall provide each of the members of the Crew with some suitable prize to commemorate the event. 24. — It shaU be in the power of the Execu- tive Committee in the event of any member or members of the Club being chosen by the Captain (and approved of by the Executive Committee) to represent the Club as competi- tors at any regatta meeting held elsewhere than in Ottawa to authorize the payment by the Club of all expenses to and fro, and legiti- mate expenses while necessarily absent out of Club funds. 25. — ^Life and Active Members shall have the privilege of keeping their private boats in the Club House. All places suitable for the storage of such boats shall be numbered, and be put up to auction (at an upset price of five dollars) every year at such time and place as the Executive Committee shall appoint (notice of which shall be given,) and allotted to the highest bidder. The price for which the same may be sold shall be forthwith paid, or the same i i have for U shall be again forthwith put up for sale. The storage of such boats to be under the control of the Executive Committee. 26. — The Executive Committee shall appoint one of their number each week to see that during that week the boat-house is kept in proper order, and generally to have immediate charge of arrangements in the boat-house. 27. — These Eules shall be printed, and a copy of the same sent to every member of the Club by the Secretary.
