To dissemmate imormanon on the subject oi society. Emigration. 2. To assist intending Emigrants by information and advice. 3. To make arrangements for the passage of Emi- grants to the Colonies. 4. To make advances, by way of loan, whenever the funds of the Society shall permit, to Emi- grants for their outward passage. 5. To correspond with the Colonial Grovernments in reference to the labour requirements of their respective Colonies, and the classes of Emi- grants needed ; and to obtain their co-opera- tion and support. 4»8 Cflficers. Secretary. Bankers. Meetings of the Committee. CONSTITUTION AND LAWS. The Society shall be denominated " The Colonial Emigration Society." Donors of Five Guineas and upwards, and Annual Subscribers of One Guinea and upwards, shall be Members, entitled to vote at annual or special meetings of the Society. The Society shall be managed by a President, Vice-Presidents, treasurer. Honorary Secretary, and a Committee of twelve members, to be elected from the Donors and Subscribers at the annual meeting of the Society. The Committee shall be empowered to appoint a paid Secretary, and to provide suitable offices for carrying on the business of the Society. The banking account of the Society shall be opened in the name of the Treasurer, and all cheques shall be signed by him and countersigned by the Honorary Secretary. The Committee shall meei on the first Friday in each month (or oftener), at three o'clock, p.m., for the transaction of business ; three to form a quorum. They will also fix the time and place for the annual meetings of the Society, when the Officers and Committee for the ensuing year shall be elected, and the Treasurer's accounts (previously audited) and annual report be submitted. A special meeting ■, 1 i / r \\ii 3 of the Members of the Society shall be called by the President or the Committee at any time they may consider such meeting advisable, or on a requisition of twelve Members, addressed to the Honorary Secretary. A m Donations and Subscriptions, and Colonial Aid. The Treasurer, Bankers, and Honorary Secre- tary shall be empowered to receive donations, sub- scriptions, and remittances from the Colonies, for the passage of Emigrants, and to sign receipts on behalf of the Society- A special duty of the Committee shaU be to open Colonies, communications with the various Colonial G-overn- ments, for the purpose of obtaining their co-opera- tion and support, as well as such information as may promote the objects of the Society and the welfare of intending Emigrants. The Committee shall be authorized to adopt such Reports. means as shall seem to them most desirable for giving publicity to the objects and operations of the Society. The Committee shall be authorized to receive from persons residing in this country or in the Colonies any sums of money or passage-warrants they may remit, to enable friends or relatives to emigrate. Persons wishing to have friends sent out. 500 '^TifJr&c. ''"' ^^® Committee shall decide upon all grants of money for assisted passages, and fix the conditions on which such grants shall be made. Female EmiBra- tlou — Ladies' Committee. The Committee, if they think it desirable, may sanction the formation of a Ladi'^s' Committee, for the purpose of considering and reporting on appli- cations by Female Emigrants, and may co-operate with other Societies having for their objects the furtherance of Emigration on an organized plan.
