Arion Club, is organized for the purpose of studying music for male voice->. ARTICLE IL Sec. I. The member.s of the club shall be Membership composed and classified as follows : (rt) Active, (6) Auxiliary, {c) Associate, and ((/) Honorary. Sec. 2. The number of aci'ive members shall be limited to thirty-two. Sec. 3. The number of aujtiliary members shall be at the diacretinn of the general com- mittee, but shall not at any time be more than eight. Sec. 4. The number of associate members shall be limited to one hundred and twenty-five. ARTICLE in. Sec. f. The officers of the club shall be: Officers and A President, Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer, Librarian, and CondRCtor. committees. 364 1 4 AkION CI.UB. Sec. 2. Only honorary members shall be eligible for the office of president. Sec. 3. There shall also be a General Com- mittee, to consist of the vice-president, secretary- treasurer, librarian, conductor and two active members, four to constitute a quorum ; and Sec. 4. A Music Committee, to consist of the conductor and one active member. Sec. 5. The officers and members of the said committees shall be elected at the annual meeting by ballot, and their term of office shall commence on election and shall continue until the appoint- ment of successors. ARTICLE IV. Vice-Presi- The Vice-President shall preside at all meet- ^"*' ings of the club, but in the case of his absence a chairman for the meeting may be chosen. Secretary- Treasurer. ARTICLE V. The Secretary-Treasurer shall also be secretary o( the general committee; shall notify members of their election ; conduct the correspondence of the club; keep a record of its proceedings at all meetings, in a Ixjok which shall be open at all times to the inspection of the active members, and keep a correct list "f the members. He shall record the attendances at rehearsals and notify the active members of special meetings; he shall also col- lect all moneys due the club : pay its bills, and ^ HY-I.AVVS. 5 keep a covrect account of his transactions. He shall submit a statement of the comiition of the club to the general committee previous to the annual meeting, and present to that meeting a detailed statement of receipts and expenditures. He shall be ready at all times to e.xhil)ii t(» the general committee his cash on hand, ard his books for inspection. ARTICLE VI. The Librarian shall have charge and keep a Libnuian. record of the music, books, periodicals and other property of the club entrusted to his care, and shall see that they are maintained in good order. No music, book or other article shall be taken from the club-room except by his permission. ARTICLE VII. The Conductor shall direct the musical exer- Conductor, cises of the club, and have absolute authority during rehearsals and concerts. ARTICLE VTII. The Music Committee shall have general direc- Music tion of the musical aflfairs of the club, and entire charge of the selection and purchase of music. They shall also examine all candidates for active membership and applicants for auxiliary member- ship as to their musical fitness, report to the gen- eral committee from time to time the names of those qualified for admission, and attend to the classification and proper seating of members. ARION CLUH. (.iciu'ral lommittee. Active and auxiliary members. ARTICLE IX. Skc. I. The General Committee shall have the management and control of the properly and business affairs of the club, except as may be otherwise provided in these by-laws. Sec. 2. It shall be the duty of this conjmittee, prior to the report called for in the following sec- tion, to suspend temporarily from participation in the exercise:> of the club any member whose irregularity of attendance, inattention or incapacity make his voice undesirable in the chorus, with power to reinstate without iiiaking such report, if good cause be shown. Sec. 3. They may at any time report lo the club the name of any active or auxiliary mem- ber whose participation in its musical exercises ought in their opinion to cease ; or who has been guilty of conduct unbecoming to the character and subversive of the good order and purposes of the club. Sec. 4 They shall make such arrangements as they may think proper for the convenience and comfort of the club, subject however to the con- trol of the active members, whose will, expressed by a majority of those present at any regular meeting, shall be conclusive. ARTICLE X. Sec. I. Candidates for active membership shall make application in writing to the secretary, and f I I I HY LAWS, i I I the names of those iluly (jualified for admission shall be reported by the general committee to the club, and posted in the* club-room at least two weeks previous {o action thereon. An election may be heKl at any regular meeting or rehearsal of the club at which a quorum is present. Election of n\embers shall be by ballot and three black balls shall reject a candidate. Kach member must pay an entrance fee of two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50) within ten days after election, otherwise he will be considered to have forfeited his membership. Sec. 2. An applicant for active membership, after being favorably reported upon by the music C(mimiltee, may be admitted as an auxiliary member by the general committee. Sec. 3. Auxiliary members shall have the privilege of rehearsing with the club, and at the discretion of the music committee, of singing at a concert in the absence of a regular member, but shall not be subject to entrance fee, and shall have no voice in the management of the club's affairs. Sec. 4. On the occurrence of a vacancy, nn auxiliary member may be admitted as an active member upon presentation of his name by the general committee as provided in Sec. I. Sec. 5. The fiscal year shall end on the 31st May. Sec. 3. In each fiscal year associate members shall be entitled to three tickets of admission to three concerts, which shall be given on such dates as may be appointed from time to time by the general committee. Sec. 4. Associate members shall not by virtue of their membership have any voice in the man- agement of the club's affairs. ARTICLE XII. A regular business meeting shall be held on the first Monday of every month, and no business shall be transacted except at this meet- ing, cat a special meeting called for the purpose. Sec. 3. An annual meeting shall be held on the second Monday in June, at which the election of officers and committees for the ensuing year shall take place. Sec. 4.
