The payment at any one time of a sum not less than Tea Pouads, shall con- atitute a Life Member; and the paymeat annually of any sum, however smulJ, shall constitute the person paying the same a Member of the ISociety. The Society shall have a President, who shall be the Lord Bishop of the Diocese ; two or more Vice Presidents, of whom the ^rchdeacon shall be the first ; one or more Treasurers ; one or more Secretaries ; two Auditors of Accounts ; and an Executive Committee of twentv-four Lay Members of the Society, being Life Members of the Society or Subscribers of at least One Pound to the funds of the Society, who, with the exception of the President and Vice ?r'»sidents, shall be annually elected at the Anniversary Meeting. V. The Oflicers of the Society and the Clergy of the Diocese shall be ex officio members of the Committee: five to be a quorum, and three of the five Laymen. VI. The Society shall embrace the following objects and none other, viz: 1. Missionary Visits to places where there is no settled Clergyman, and aid to new and poor Missions. 2. The establishment of Divinity Scholarships at King's Collpge, Freder- icton ; and assistance where necessary to those who may be under preparation for the Ministry, especially Sons of Clergymen. 3. Aid to Sunday and other Schnols in which Church principles are taught, and the training andencouraging of Schoolmasters and Catechists. 4. The supply of Books and Tracts, in strict conformity with the principles of the Established Church. 5. Aid to the building and enlarging of Churches and Chapels. 6. Aid to the buildins of Parsonage Houros. 7. The creation of a fund towards the augmentation of the stipends of poor Clergymen — towards making a provision for rhoae who maybe incapacitated by age or infirmity — and for the widows and orphans of the Clergy — and towards the education of the children of poor Clergymen. VIT. SAINT JOHN, The Saint John Local Committee held their Annual Meeting on December 32d, when the Secretary submitted the following statement. * The Secretary of the Samt John Local Committee begs leave to * represent, that in accordance with a Resolution passed at the lost * meeting* the (lentlemen who were appointed to solicit subscriptions * have made their returns, from which the following statement is * compiled. * The number of Subscribers for the year is 590, of whom three are 'Life Members, viz. The New Maryland Committee report a collection of ^5 9s. 3d, for the General Purposes of the Society ; request another small grant of Books for their Lending Library ; and request aid in the enlarge* ment of the Church. They propose making an addition by which nearly one third more accommodation will be provided, and solicit such aid from the Society as wilt enable them to complete the work during the ensuing summer, PORTLAND. At a meeting of the Portland Local Committee, it was resolved that the Honorable Charles Simonds, and Jacob Allan, Esquire, be their Lay Deputies to the General Committee. It was also Resolved, that A grunt of Books be solicited for the augmentation of the Parochial Lending Library, that object being looked upon as one of great im« portance, and from which much good may be anticipated. The sub> scriptions amount to £5Q ; of which ^10 4s. lOd. is limited to Mis* sionary Visits, and £1 Vis. -to the Widows and Orphans Fund. The Committee return their warmest thanks to the Society for the liberal grant of Books made to them last year. WOODSTOCK. The Woodstock Local Committee held their Annual Meeting on the 8th December ; among the Resolutions then passed was the following : * Resolved, That this Committee ffewing the Church Society as a , * means for disseminating more generally the truths of the Gospel, and > the doctrines of oar Apostolic Church throughout this Diocese ; and <* believing that the prosperity of the Church depends in a great degree * upon unity of action among her meitibers, cannot but deem it not * only an imperative duty, but the highest privilege for all who are in * the full enjoyment of its ministrations, cordially to join their fellow *■ Churchmen in aid of a Society whose sole e0brts are directed to- * wacds securing the spiritual welfare of their fellow creatures.' The Saint Stephens Local Committee held their Annual Meeting on 24th December, tho Reverend Dr. Thomson^ Rector, in the Chain Prayers having been read by the Curate, the Rev. Mr. Tippet, the Chairman addressed the meeting,, and concluded his address with an earnest entreaty that his people might suppoit, according to their means, the Diocesan Church Society. A report of the proceedings of the Local Committee was then submitUsd by the Slecretary^ Rev^ Mr. Tippet; and a series of Resolutions passed, .among them one in- structing the Lay Deputies to ask for aid towards enlarging the Parish Church by the aiddition of a Chancel. ' The Carleton Local Committee beg to feturn their thanks to th» Church Society for the grant of Books made to them, last year^ part of which were given to the National Schools^ and the remainder added to the Church Lending Library. They also express a hope that4hey may be permitted to share in the next distribution. J. S. Thomson, and have no doubt that these payments, as well as those (o Mr. Jafircy, have been duly made ; but the Treasurer is not entitled to take credit for the same until the proper vouchers therefor are produced.
