Assistant Librarian,— MISS LINDLEY. fl Al» , < i • « Rules and Regulations OF THE 4BRANTF0RD PUBLIC LIBRARY} 1. — The Librarian shall, under the direction of the Board of Management, have the charge and superintendence of tlie Library, Reading Room and premises, and shall be responsible for the care and safety of all the books and obher public property contained in them, as well as for the orderly deportment of assistants and readers. 2. — Any resident of Hrantford shall be entitled to a Library Card on signing the application, and upon obtaining the signature of one ratepayer (who must be approved of by the Librarian or Chairman) to the following guarantee, or upon depositing the sum of three dollars with the Librarian To the Librarian Public Library, Brattt/oni : I recommend , residirnj at No street, occupation, , as a ft', person to enjoy the privilcnts of the Public Library ; and I hereby guarantee that I will make good any injury or loss the Library may sustain from the permission that may be given in consequence of this certificate. Name When the person who has signed this engagement shall desire to withdraw from it, he must give notice thereof to the Librarian, who will give a release as soon as he shall have ascertained that no liability exists. C RULES AND REGULATIONS. The privileges accorded in consequence of this certifi- cate may be revoked at pleasure l)y the Board of Manage- ment, Borrowers are especially cautioned against losing their tickets, as tliey will he held responsible for any books that may he taken out with such ticket. 3. — Only one book can be drawn at a time, except in the case of a work being: in more volumes than one. No book can be kept longer than two weeks, but a book may ^le re-drawn once for the same period. 4. — Books of reference cannot be taken from tlie con- sulting room. .5. — A fine of fi.ve cents for each day, up to the value of a volume, will be imposed for detaining a book longer than th« time allowed by the rules. Fines will also be imposed for turning down leaves, marking, or in any way injuring or defacing a book. 6. — No one shall be permitted to take books from the shelves except the Librarian and assistants, and members of the Board of Management. T.^-Noise and loud conversation in the Library and Blading Room are strictly prohibited. 8. — The use of Tobacco is prohibited in all the rooms of the Library 9. — The Library and Readintjj Room hours shall be from 9.30 a. m. to 1 p. m. :• from 3 to 6.30 p. m., and from 7.30 to 9.30 p. m., except on legal holidays, when the rooms shall be closed all day. 10. — Any person incurring a fine may draw once after the penalt\ is incurred, but the card will be retained, and the further privileges of the Library suspended, till such fine is paid. 11. — No book, magazine, «tc., shall be retained or laid aside by any employee of the Library for any reader, and all books, magazmes, etc., before being re-issued shall be placed on the .shelves RULE? AND REGULATIONS. 12. — Xo book shall be issued unless the Library Card is presented at the time of drawing. 13. — All books returned must be registered iuimcdi itely on ent'jring the Library. 14. — Readers desirous of proposing books, periodie&la, or newspapers for addition to the Library, may do so by writing the same in a "Suggestion 13ook," wliich will be submitted regularly to the Library Committee. 15. — Leaves of new books, magazines, ite., must be cut by Librarian before being placed on shel ves. 16. — It shall be the duty of the Librarian to enforce all Regulations, and to collect all fines, and to pay ever the same to the Treasurer. 17. — These Regulations, or any of them, may be re- pealed or amended, acd new Regulations may be made, at any regular meeting of the Board of Management, a majority of the Board concurring. n By Order.
