If the candidate is rejected the fee shall be returned. If candidate is accepted and does not appear for initiation within three months after receiving due notice the fee shall be forfeited to the Lodge unless good and sufficient reason for non attendance can be shown. I ." ARTICLE VIII. • Every candidate for initiation shall be propo- sed in open Lodge. The form of declaration pres- cribed by Grand Lodge signed by the candidate and by two members of the todge, shall be handed in to the Secretary to be read before the Lodge. A candidate having been proposed his name shall be entered by the Secretary and shall remain on the books for at least one month then after the report of investigating committee (which shall consist of three members of the Lodge appointed by the Master) a vote shall be taken according to the constitution. ., .i,. ARTICLE IX No person shall be initiated in this Lodge and no Brother shall be admitted a member thereof «7 / BY-LAWS ' . 5 if on the ballot being taken one black ball ap- pears against him, but to prevent mistakes the Master may direct the ballot to be taken the se- cond time which shall be final. The Secretary shall notify all Lodges in this district and also the Grand Secretary of such rejection. ^ AP.TICLE X. If any Brother or candidate on ballot be re- jected it is required of every member and visi- ting brother present that he shall not on the ho- nor of a Mason at any time improperly declare the fact. Any member violating this rule may be suspended from membership during the pleasu- re of the Lodge 3nd any visitor guilty of a like, violation shall not during the pleasure of the Lodge be allowed to visit or to become a mem- ber of this Lodge. That may not plead ignorance the W. Master shall direct this law to be distinctly read in open Lod- ge immediately after rejection and previous to any communication being made to the applicant. Any brother mason not a member of this Lod- ge desiring to affiliate thereto shall be proposed in the usual manner, and be balloted for ai the next regular meeting. ARTICLE XIL Any member retiring from the Lodge or caus- ing his name to be erased from the Lodge books for any cause except for the non-payment of dues shall not be re-admitted without a bal- lot. No member shall be permitted to withdraw his name unless upon application in writing and not untill he shall have paid all arrears of dues. ARTICLE XIIL ■ Any brother who shall be in arrears for dues for six months, shall bo notified in writing of the same and if he neglects or refuses to pay his monthly dues after receiving such notice for the space of six months from the date of such noti- fication, he may then after due trial be suspend- 9d or expelled as the Lodge may determine un- til all arrears are paid, and the signing of the by- laws is hereby declared to be an acknowledge- "h '/!V'^y*^Tj'Ty'^*^^'Try!7""''^'' ^ subject to its by-laws. A visitor may, with per- mission from the Master presiding, speak on any subject before the Lodge. A book shall be placed in the Anteroom in which every visitor shall enter his name, Masonic rank, the name of his mother Lodge and number and name of the ;- Lodge he hails from. ARTICLE XVI. The cash, funds, secureties, jewels, imple- ments and all other property belonging to this Lodge shall be, an i are hereby invested in and deemed the property of the Master & Wardens for the time being, who, as such shall hold the same in trust for the u^e and benefit of the Lod- ge; to be ])aid, applied, disposed of or utilized as the Lodge may in due form decide, and all actions, suits or other proceedings necessary ei- ther for the preservation or recovery of the same, or any part thereof shall be brought or taken in their names as such Master & Wardens. ARTICLE XVII. The Treasurer shall deposit all monies that come into his hands in the People's Bank of Ha- lifax at Lake Megan tic, P. Q, in the name of 4» i i w '^ i VitisWis BY-LAWS . 9 Fidelity Lodge, subject to the joint cheque of Master & Treasurer. No funds are to be disposed of without the consent of a majority of the Lodge. ARTICLE XVIIL The by-laws shall be transcribed in a book for that purpose, and signed by every present and '' future member on his admission, who shall be entitled to a copy of the same. They shall not be amended or repealed without a regular committee being appoint- ed for the purpose of reporting thereon; whose proceedings must be approved of by three quar- ters of the members present at the reception of the report. t . ARTICLE XIX. On every St. John the Baptist's day in June and thereafter, as the W. Master shall be installed, an annual permanent committee consisting of the Master, Past Master, Wardens & Secretary and three other Members appointed by the Master, shall be appointed to examine into the state of the finances, property and affairs of the Lodge; they may require the attendance of such mem- bers & demand such information as they shall consider essential to the interest of the Lodge. They shall meet whenever directed by the Master. Three shall form a quorum. In the absence of the principal officers & the Past Mas- ter, the committee shall choose one of their num- ber to preside. The Secretary shall enter the proceedings in a book kept for that purpose. They shall make an annual report through the Master, in writing, at the regular monthly meet- ing in june. ARTICLE XX. The W. Master, by a vote of the majority of the members present at a,ny meeting of the Lodge, may draw from the funds of the Lodge not otherwise appropriated, such a sum of mo- ney as is necessary to defray the expense of suitable refreshments for a particular occasion. But no spirituous or intoxicating liquors shall be allowed in any portion of the Lodge, rooms, adjoining, or in the Hall leading to said rooms; and any brother being found guilty of violating this clause shall be subject to reprimand, sus- pension or expulsion as the Lodge may determi- ne the nature of the case. " ARTICLE XXI. - / - ' It shall be the duty of each member of this BY-LAWS II Lodge to sustain a good moral character in and out of the Lodge, and if any member shall be guilty of profane swearing, drinking of spiritotis liquors to excess, gambling and any other gross 'immoralities, he shall for the first offense recei- ve a severe reprimand from the Master in open Lodge, for the second offence he shall be liable to suspension or expulsion; but no Brother shall be expelled except after a due trial by a vote of two thirds of the members present. If any brother trespass against another or against the r les and regulations of this Lodge, let the aggrieved brother or the Master tell him his fault privately, if he gives satisfaction well; if he then neglect Or refuse to give satisfaction complaint may be made to the Lodge, which complaint shall always be in writing. ■■*-'-, ARTICLE XXII. ■, / The regular meetings of this Lodge unless stated in the summons shall be open at eight o'clock P. M. : - •:;,»; BY-LAWS ARTICLE XXIIL The Secretary and Tyler of this Lodge, shall be exempted from paying the regular annual Lod- ge dues of six dollars.
