It will he noted that the <-ontent- of tiu'se cans are of very uniform weight, and approximate I'o ouiici's net. Saccharin is entirely ab.'ient. Sulphites in more than traces are found in of samples or nbout 25 per cent, of the whole niimher examined. The last inspection of tliii article was made in 1911 and is reported in Bulletin No. 2-_'t>. Thirty-one per cent of a collection of 140 samples showed sulphites to he present at that time. The following paragraphs from the introduction to Bulletin No. 226 are applicable here : — 'The (pu-stioii of the use of sulphurous aeid (the acid present in sulphites) iti foods i~ a very important one.
