This Society shall consist of all persoDs paying annually Two Shillings and Six Pence, or upwards, in aid of its funds. ARTICLE n. The Anniversary of this Society shall be held, when practi- cable, on the last Thursday in May, with power,— 1st. To receive the Report of the Committee, and to sanction its publication. 2nd. To appoint a Treasurer, and a general Secretary, for the ensuing year, who shall be, ex ojicio, members of the Committee of Management. 3rd. To appoint at least twelve persons as members of a Committee of Management for the ensuing year ; one-fourth of whom, at least, shall be teachers, members of the Wesleyan Methodist Church; one-half, subscribers, also members of the said Church; and the remainder, may be subscribers, not members of the said Church. 4th. To make any alterations in the Constitution of this Society, which may be originated and recommended by the Committee of Management. Provided, however, that no alterations shall be made, than such as tend to conform the ' . -£■- ■ ;:-: OMtnagemenl of the Society and the Schools under its direction, tc the system which now is, or from time to time, shall be, raeommended by the said Conference. ARTICLE III. The management of this Society shall be vested in the Wesleyan Ministers of the Halifax Circuit, (the Superintendent Minister being President, aod hk Colleagues, Vice Presidents of the Society), the abore named ofiicers and members of Committee, with the Superintendents, Visitors, Librarians, and Local Secretaries of the Schools. ARTICLE IV. The Committee shall meet quarterly (and oitener if required by three of its members, with the concurrence of the President), and seven shall form a quorum for the transaction of business. It shall be the duty of the Committee.— I St. Annually, at the first meeting in each calendar year, to appoint a Superintendent, one or more Visitors, and a sufficient number of Teachers to each School, nnder their management. 2nd. To change or remove any of the Officers or Teachers of the Schools, when deemed advisable or necessary. 3td. To devise means for raising funds to purchase books, and other requisites for the Schools. 4th. To* make an equitable appropriation of the funds, mceording to the circumstances of the respective Schools. 6th. To relinquish existing Schools, and establish new ones, at they may judge expedient, with the consent of the President. 6lh. To fill up vacancies in their own body, when any such occur. And nh. To exercise a vigilant and prudent control over, and aim at the efficient operation and extension of the Sabbath School system. f r««( H» m»p. V- I ARTICLE V. There shall be a Moathly Teachers' Meeting for each School, consisting of the Superintendent, yi«itore, and Teachers, at which meeting persons may be proposed and admitted as Teachers, until sanctioned or disallowed by the Committee. Arrangements shall be made to canvas for Scholars, and visit sick or absent scholars. The Teachers' Meetings shall have authority to make rules and regulations for their own proceed- ings, subject to the revisal of the Committee, as well as to recommend to the Committee such rules and regulations for the government of the Schools, as they may from time to time, deem advisable. Each Teachers' Meeting shuU appoint a Librarian and a Local Secretary, from its own number. It shall be the duty of the Secretary, — 1st. To keep a record of the proceedings of each meeting, to be laid before the Committee at its next meeting. 2nd. To make minutes, under the direction of the Super- intendcLt, of any interesting circumstances connected with the School, and renew the Class-books when necessary. 3rd. To give notice of the Monthly Teachers' Meetings. 4th. To report the state of the School to the Committee, when required. The Librarian shall have chai^ of the Library, and other hockn used in the School, and shall superintend and keep aeeoant of their distribution. ARTICLE VI. There shall be a General Meeting of the Committee, and the members of the Teachers* Meetings, in January, April, ^uly, tad October ; in order to converge on the state of the Schools, — to cbntribate for mutual edification, the result oJT indiyidoal experience and bbsHTtation on methods of teaching, — to en- .v ■ '.-A courage each other to zeal and perseverance,- and to implurt til* Divine bletsiog upon their exertiona. ARTICLE VII. The Gteoeral Secretary shall attend the Meetings of the Committee and Society, and keep records of their proceedings. He shall give, or cause to be given, due notice of the periodical and special meetings of the Committee and Society. He shall sign all orders on the Treasurer for monies, under the direction of the Committee, and to his order only shall the Treasurer have authority to pay the monies of the Society. ARTICLE VIII. The Visitors shall attend the several Schools as often as practicable, and shall afford to the Superintendents and Teach* en, such counsel and encouragement as may to them seem suitable. They shall report, at the meetings of the Com- mittee, the result of their observations on the state of the Schools. ARTICLE IX. All Libraries, and other books connected with the Schools, shall be regarded as belonging to the Society, and shall be at the disposal of the Committee, for the benefit of the Schools generally. No book shall be purchased, or admitted as a Library or School Book, to which the Committee or Super- intendent of the Circuit shall object, as unsuitable. ARTICLE X. No person shall be permitted to hold a situation as officer or member of the Committee, or of any Teachers' Meeting, whose moral character or religious opinions shall render him, in the judgment of the Committee, or the Quarterly Meeting of the Circuit, unfit for such situation. ■A i OFFICERS, &C., or THE SABBATH SCHOOL SOCIETY.
