The roof was perfectly tight, and the inside was perfectly free from stains, indicating that no water had ever come through. I am free to say that so far I consider the roof a perfect success. I have been connected with car building and car repairing for the last twenty years, and I have never seen any roof that, in my judgment, can compare with the LeGros Car Roof. LeGros Building and Car Roofing Company : Gentlemen — I have had under observation the LeGros Car Roof for so^ne years, having gone out of my way at times to see how the different kinds of roofs were doing on all kinds of foreign cars passing this point in the last seven years. Not only have I looked for leaks, but for effects of sweating, etc. ; besides, have put on about one hundred and seventy five LeGros Roofs. From such observation I have formed the opinion that your roof developes no defects in use, at least, I have seen none, and believe, with proper application in first place, and proper care afterward, that it will last the life of a car. By proper application and care, I mean in the matter of paint. You will observe [ use more paint first than you consider necessary. This is merely a matter of judgment. I, of course, believe I am right. Next, I think the question of care covers the one of true economy also, and that this roof, or any other, should be painted every two years. As to the question of first cost, I will give you the first cost from actual work done in every day work, and where all was done in the best manner, which will come nearer the actual facts than most estimates, some of which are from a rush, which is not maintained in actual practice in general shops, or on work by contract, where every corner is cut, such as four nails where six is called for, solder seams, not plumbed, a gallon of paint covering twice the area it should, etc. I will give in attached statements the cost of LeGros, tin, and double board roofs. A recent examination of the oldest roof on our cars shows that tiiey are in perfect condition, Altogether, I consider it (so far) the best roof that can be put on cars, and I hope and think that the future will bear out the above statement.
