D'Eschabault 3.00 On the 23rd of November 1837, about 800 patriots, under the command of Dr. Wolfred Nelson, at St. Denis, on the Richelieu river, after a battle of six hours routed the British troops under the command of Colonel Gore. The rebellion had now taken such proportion in order to defray expenses it was necessary to resort to some means te secure funds. To accomplish this object, the patriots, on the 22nd of July, issued promissory notes in the name of the St-Denis Brewery which were printed at M. Louis Perrault's printing establishment in Montreal. These notes were signed by Dr. Wolfred Nelson, leader of the patriots of St. Denis and countersigned by Olivier Kimber, Horace Nelson or Louis F. D'Eschambault. ■Wt ■f-::''J .-4 i -, J>J- ■V'«. ?
