 \ In reorganiiing the Faculty, under the W. C. McDonald 
 endowment, a number of .well->known names have been added to th#- 
 RtafT, as shown above, and the courses largely specialized. It was 
 felt, that while professional men, engaged in the active practice of 
 their profession/ might be relied upon to deliver rejgularly a limited 
 numl>er of lecturer on special subjects, they ouutd not be expected to 
 undertake to submit to the serious interference with their business 
 and inevitable interruptions, involved in very lengthy courses. And 
 to obviate the difficulties and drawbacks necessarily arising from 
 sole dependence, as heretofore, on professional men in active practice* 
 for attending to the interests and maintaining the efficiency of the 
 Faculty, and to meet a deeply-felt want, in this respect^ the Dean haa 
 been appointed as a salaried officer, whose duty il will be primarily 
 to devo<c his whole time to the work* ' 
 
 Further, the Professor of tegal Bibliography has been appointed 
 secretary apd librarian, and will have supervision of the Library,— 
 cotnprising at present the law libraries of the late Mr. Griffin, Q.C., of 
 CKel^te Chancellor Day, artd jdf part of the library of the late Mr. 
 Justice ^Kay, all of which were bequeathed to the University ; and 
 also of the law library of the late Mr; Justice Torrance, now the pro- 
 perty of the Fraser Institute, of which he was a trustee — the use of 
 which has been generously granted to the Faculty by the present 
 trustees. The above law books will of themselves afford to the law 
 student a'library which will generally prove sufficient for his wants, 
 and which will be kept upaottadded to by the expenditure of a sum 
 annually in, the purchase of books. There will alio be provided in 
 connection therewith a reading. rOom, in which the leading law

 direct soarce of most of our civil law ; while nearly the whole body 
 of English Criminal and Constitutional Ut^ and large portions of 
 English Commercial taw are equally parts of the lawj^ this Pro-

 The imporuncc of the NoUrial profcs^on, and of a knowledge 
 of nourial practice and conveyancihg. has led to the appointment u 
 # full member of the ficulty of a Professor of Nourial law wbose 
 coui»e of lectures will be attended by all professional students. 
 
 With a view to extending as far as possible the usefulness of the 
 Fffculty, the courses of lectures on commercial subjects have been so 
 arranged, that young men engaged- io banks oi- other business houset 
 can attend them without interference with their regular duties. 
 Students of other departments of the University, and, in fact, all who 
 may desire to do so, may attend such particular coiirsjjs as they may 
 sec fit to select. It is hope J that the courses deliver^ will be found 
 beneficial to all students, indeed to all who may desire to know some- 
 thing of the constitution and laws by which they are governed, and of 
 a science which has been characterized by Burke, as •« the collected 
 reason of ages, combining the principles of origin il Justice and the

 and will be payable during the second year. 
 
 Peaces open to competition of all the studen()b, will also be given 
 to the students taking the best standing ib each year.

 unless a sufficiently high standing, in the estimation of the Faculty,

 Matriculated students who do not uke the whole course are
