 It is very desirable that the collectioii to' be tak«n up fot the Sovereign Pontiff should be as 
 large as possible. Were it otherwise, it would be a stain on the character of the Diocess. 
 
 I request that you would, when reading the Pastoral to your people, accompany it with such 
 remarks as you may think best calculated to excite your parishioners to enter into tH- matter with 
 becoming spirit. 
 
 You will appoint a day for collecting all the offerings, and you will be careful to give sidfi- 
 oiently timely notice, so that all may be enabled to prepare for the occasion. 
 
 It would be perhaps well to select some competent persons to take down the names of all those 
 who will give more than 25 or 50' cents, as you think best ; these lists to bo sent to Kingston,^ where 
 they will be transcribed into a volume to be carefully preserved in the archives of the Diocess.- » 
 
 I wish also that in the returns you would mention separately the amount of your |wwoi\al 
 offering, as, in the statement 1 will send to Rome, I intend making sepiftrate mention ofths'amouiit; 
 contributed by the Clergy of the Diocess. 
 
 Much of the suiscess of this truly Catholic work depends upon the effbrts of the Clergy. I 
 commit it to their care in all confidence, knowing that they will not fhil to exert all' their in^ience 
 that the Tribute offered may be worthy of the Holy Father and of the Diocess of Kingston.
