 shall be ihe aum of Fifty Dollars, and that upon the pay* 
 ment of such sum to the Treasurer of the Municipality, he 
 shall issue his Certificate whereby every such applicant 
 ehail be entitled to obtain from the Revenue Inspector of 
 the District a Tavern License, which License shall be in 
 force from the first day of March ol the year In which it is 
 issued, until the last day of February of the following year 
 and no longer. At the expiration of which time parties 
 continuing to sell shall be liable to the penalties hereby 
 imposed for selling without License. 
 
 AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, that it shall be 
 incumbent on the party applying for a Tavern License to 
 prove to the satisfaction of the Inspector that he or she is 
 a person of unblemished character and sober habits, and 
 that he or she holds at the place where such Tavern is in- 
 tended to be Uept, personal property to the amount of two 
 hundred dollars. 
 
 AND BE IT FURTHER EXACTED, that it shall be 
 the duty of the Inspectors, in addition to their first visit of 
 inspection, to make at least two visits to the several Ta- 
 verns in their respective Wards during the year, to see 
 that the provisions and regulations contained in this By- 
 Law be complied with. And it shall further be the duty 
 of the Inspectors, uptm personal knowledge, or upon credi- 
 ble informarion being given to them of any breach of the 
 provisions of this By-Law, to enquire into the truth of such 
 mformation, and prosecute persons for the contravention 
 of any of the provisions hereof. Provided always that the 
 expense attending any subsequent application for a Li- 
 cense or transfer of Licens*? alter the first day of March in 
 each year, shall be paid by the party applying for such 
 Transfer or License, and the Inspector whose services may 
 be thus required, shall be entitled to demand and to receive 
 from the party making such application, before entering 
 upon the duty of inspecting the premises of any such ap- 
 plicant, whether such applicant shall be found qualified or 
 not. the sum of Two Dollars for each day or part of a day 
 that he may be necessarily occupied in making such iu-> 
 spection. 
 
 And in no case shall the Treasurer of this Municipality 
 grant Certificates for Tavern I/icenses in a proportioa 
 greater than one for every two hundred and fifty inhabi- 
 tants resident therein, as sliowh by the last census ; aad, 
 in case of a larger numbter of applicants than allowed kyjr

 where by law intoxicating liquors, or any particular descri-

 Nine on Saturday evening till the hour of Six on the Mon- 
 day morning tliereafier, except in cases where a special 
 requisition for medicinal purposes signed by a licensed

 AND BE IT ENACTED, that from and after the pass- 
 ing of this By-Law, it shall not be lawful for any Proprie- ., 
 tor or person in charge ol any Wax Figures. Puppit Shows, J;'^";*^^""^ " 
 or other Exhibitions, to exhibit such Wax Figures, Puppit shows. 
 Shows, Wire Dancing, Circus Hiding, or other feats, which 
 common Showmen, Circus riders, Mountebaiiks. Jugglers, 
 or other travelling performers usually exhibit, until he or 
 they have obtained fiom the Town Reeve, or a Councillor 
 for the Township, a written permission tc exhibit the same 
 in the Township for one month ; and, for such permission, 
 the owner or owners of such Exhibition or Show shall pay 
 at the time the same shall be granted a sum in the dis- 
 cretion of such Reeve or Councillor of not less than Four 
 Dollars^ nor more than One Hundred Dollars, to be paid 
 over by the Reeve or Councillor granting such permission i 
 to the Treasurer of the Township, for Township purposes. 
 
 AND BE IT ENACTED, that it shall not be lawful for^jming Froi.

 Draughts, Skittles, or any other implement of Gaming

 as lodgers, or boarders, or otherwise, any ill-disposed per- 
 sons as well men as women of evil name or fame, or to 
 draw together dissolute or debauched persons, or to induce 
 them to fiequent his house, or to permit them to remain 
 there drinking or misbehaving themselres, subject to tho

 BY-LAW, NO. 171. 
 
 HEREAS it is expedient that By-Law, No. 170, for 
 imposing Tavern and Shop Licenses, and for regul- 
 ating the same, within the Township ot Vaughan, be 
 altered. 
 
 BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED, by ihe Municipal 
 Council of ihe Townshui of Vaughan, and it is hereby t-n- 
 actcd accordingly, that the clause in the said By-Law 
 fixing •he amounts that shall be pai I for Tavern and Shop 
 Licenses, be, and the sirne is hereby repealed. 
 
 AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, that the amounls 
 to be paid for a Tavern License, (exclusive of the Provin- 
 cial duty), shall be the sum of Forty-five Dollard, and for 
 a Shop License, the sum of Sixty five Dollars, 
 
 AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, that the smallest 
 quantity that shall be allowed to be sold under a Shop 
 License, shall be one quart.
