Teachers are expected to be at the head of their classes, at the opening of the School, and not to leave them 6r converse with each other, during school hours, except on necessary school business ; and in all things to pay respectful attention to the wishes and authority of the Superintendent. Zt^, The Teachers, according to their ability, shall instruct the children under their care in all moral and religious knowledge ; shall question them on the reading and other lessons, to see whe- ther they understand them; shall inculcate upon them the necessity of loving God ; b^ing obedient td their Parents and other superiors ; shall point out to them the way ofsalvationjaf revealed in the Gospel of f -s 1^ ■ I ■■• 10 BT-LAW8. Christ; and endeavor to make them acquainted with all that Christians^ught to know and practice. 4th. Persons desirous of becoming Teachers in any of the Schools, shall mention their wish to the Superintendent of such School, (in whom alone the power of nomination is vested) who may nominate them at the Teachers' meeting next ensuing, such nomination to stand over foy approval or rejection • at the next monthly meeting ; >- iand wliere indiyi- dtials have been employed by the Superintendent previous to their haying been received as Teachers /iV. by the monthly meeting, it shall be the duty orH^ Superintendent to inform such persons of the mode of nomination and election as laid down in this rule. 6th. Incase of the absence of any children frofla their respective classes, the Teachers shall endeavor to visit them in person, to satisfy themselves of the causes of absence, and at the same time to ob- tain the assistance of the Parents in enforcing a regular attendance. Previous to the resignation of oflSce, every Teacher shall give to the Superintendent four weeks* notice to that effect, in order that the vacancy may be supplied. .> . i,. fci,u i i ■«g»( Bt-LAWS. 11 7th. When Teachers are unable to attend the duties of their respective classes, they shall be reqtiired to give notice to that effect to the Superin- tendent) iif possible on the day previous, and in case ol absence for three successive Sabbaths, without giving satisfactory reason to the Superintendent, such Teacher shall be considered as having withdrawn. 8th. Any Teacher who may be desirous of re- moving from one School to another, shall be allowed to do so by first obtaining the consent of .their Teachers* Meeting. ... .• . \ .■ ^ ' ■...'■ . ... '. 9th. The Scholars are expected to appear as clean as possible in their apparal and persons. 10th. They shall be ob^ent to all the direc- tions of their jpuperintendenr^d Teachers; and in case of obstinate mis-conduct%lmll be e;cpelled from the School, and after such expulsion they shall not be re-admitted without proper confes^on and amendment. Any child above the age of four years may^ be admitted cis a scholar, if such admission is agree- able to the wishes of the parents or friends of the child. ISth. If a scholar be absent fronv his class, three Babbaths successively, without satisfactory reasons being given to the Teacher, such neglect shall be accounted sufficient cause for dismissal. -^ 14th. All scholars who do not appear cleanly . or are found guilty of lying, swearing, pilfering, talking indecently, using tobacco in or about the Schools or otherwise misbehaving after the Superin- tendent has pointed out the evil of such conduct, shall be excluded from the Schoolsi 15th.
