RULES AND REaULATIONS. IDNBY. ?T, J. M. DI8. ONEL. IT. PT. 30th. ITON. I.— This Association shall bo known as "The Touonto Club." II. — Each candidate for admission shall be proposed by one member and seconded by another, by a proposal in writing, to be inserted in the Book of Candidates, and signed by l)oth mover and seconder, and shall be balloted for at any ballot which may take place after the lapse of one week from the time of such proposal, provided the name of the candidate and his proposer and seconder have been p; ^od in the Club Room, under the hand of the Secretary, at least one week before the day of ballot. No ballot shall be valid unless twelve members actually ballot, and one black ball in six shall exclude. Ill- — The ballot shall take place between the hours of ten a. m. and four p. m. on Saturdays. IV. — On the admission of each new member, the Secretary shall notify the same to him, aud furnish him with a printed copy of the Rules and Regulations, and M w awM li e BT't O TOnONTO CLUB. request him to remit the amotmt of his subscription to the Treasurer. v.— The entrance Fee shall be , and the Annual Subscription Five Pounds ; the latter to be payable in advance on the 1st De(;eniber in each year. The Subscription of new members balloted for on and after the first of February, shall be a sum equal to iwo dollars per month until the 1st Deceniber following. VI.— No member shall be admitted to vote on any occasion whatever, or enjoy any of the privileges of the Club, until he shall have i)aid whatever entrance fee or subscription shall be due by him. Vir.— Any member failing to pay his entrance fee or subscription within six weeks after his admission, if he reside in Canada, shall be reported to the Conunittee by the Secretary, who shall cause his name to be erased from the list of members, unless the delay can be justi- fied to the satisfaction of the Committee. VIII.— The name of every member failing to pay his annual subscription by the first of January, shall be exhibited in the Club Room after the expiration of ten days from that date. TX.— All entrance fees and annual subscriptions shall be paid either to the Treasurer personallj', or to his credit at the Bank of British North America. Any such member shall be re-admitted to all his privileges, upon his return being notified, in writing, to the Se- cretary', and such notification to be given within one month of his return to Canada, and upon payment of his subscription for the current year; and failing in such notification and payment, such member shall be considered as having withdrawn himself from the Club. XI.— Officers in Her Majesty's Army and Navy, and persons holding military and civil appointments under the Imperial Government, who may be stationed in Canada temporarily, shall be admitted to the privileges of the Club on payment of the subscription semi-annually in advance. XII.— Any member shall have the privilege of intro- ducing a friend to breakfast, lunch or dinner, at his sole expense, provided the name of such friend shall have been previously inscribed on the book to be kept for that purpose. XIII. — Any member whoso dues are all paid shall be at liberty to withdraw from the Club, on his written application to that effect, sent to the Conmiittee before the Ih'st stated Annual Meeting of the Club, to be held on the first Thursday in December. 8 TORONTO CLUB. \I\ Any member wilfully infringing the Rules and Regulations of the Club shall be liable to expulsion by a vote of two-thinls of the whole committee, at a meet- ing specially held for that purpose, reasonable notice of such meeting l)eing previously given to such member. XV.-Any member who shall withdraw, resign, or be expelled, shall cease to be a member of the Club and shall forfeit ipso facto all right or claim thereon o^ m or to Its property or funds; and any member who shall be expelled shall forever thereafter be ineligible to be re-admitted a member of the Club. XVf.-All concerns of the Club shall be managed by a Com,nittce to consist of eight members with the Sec- retary, to be elected annually by ballot, at the General Meeting of the Club, which shall be hdd on the fi"! Ihursday m December in each year ; and the said Com- mittee shall have full power to make such Rules and Regulations from time to time as they shall think fit. The other meeting shall be held on the Thursday fort- night, for the purpose of deciding on such propositions as may have been submitted at the former meeting, and the chair shall be taken at three o'clock. XX. —The Committee shall have power at all times to convene an extraordinary meeting of the Club on giving fourteen days' notice, to be posted up during that period in the Club Room, specifying the object of such meeting in the form of a resolution, at which meeting no subject shall be discussed beyond that specified in the notice. ^XI. — The Club room shall be open every day for the reception of members at Seven o'clock in the fore- noon in the Summer, and at Eight o'clock in the fore- noon in the Winter, and shall be closed and the lights extinguished at One A. Af., except on Saturdays and Sundays, when the hour of closing shall be midnight ; and no member shall be admitted into the Club after these hours on any pretence whatever, unless specially authorised by the Committee. XXVIIl.— No Smoking shall be allowed in the Club Rooms, except in the Billiard-room. XXIX. — No member is on any account to bring a dog into the Club Rooms. ^XX. — Any article of these rules may be altered, amended or suspended for any length of time, by con- sent of two-thirds of the members present at any meet- ing specially convened for that purpose; provided such alteration, amendment or suspension shall have been specified in the notice summoning such meeting. XXXI. — That a quorum of fifteen qualified members shall be necessary to constitute any annual or special meeting of the Club. XXX IT. — That if any member elected to serve on the Committee should resign, or should a death vacancy occur, the Committee shall have power to choose a qualified member to act in his stead until the annual meeting next ensuing. XXXITL— The Committee, on being requested in writing by ten members of the Club, shall call a General Meeting— giving a week's notice thereof, by posting the same in a conspicuous place in the Reading Room, XXXIV. — The foregoing shall be printed and distri- buted to each number. BY-LAWS. [28ib September, 1861. I. That membcrtj may introduce friends not resident in Canada West to the privileges of the Club, for any pe- riod not exceeding one fortnight. riOtb December. II. That no person shall be eligible to be elected hereafter a member of the Club unless of the age of 21 years, except Officers of Her Majesty's service. III. That gentlemen visiting Toronto, although resident in Canada West, may be introduced to the Club and make use of it for a period not exceeding three days on being entered in the Visitors' Book in the usual way. Such introduction not to be repeated more than once in Two Months. IV.
