Be it enacted by the Reeve and Municipal Coun- cil ot the Township of Stephen, by the authority vested in them, by V 36, Cap. 48, Sec. 381 ; sub Sec. 2, 3, and 4 ; and by authority of the same it is hereby enacted that from and after the passing of this By-Law, the followm;,^ animals are not allowed to run at large viz :— Horses, Pigs, Sheep, Bulls, but any r.ther animal that gets through or over a lawful fence, may be impounded. No charge is allowed for driving any of the above animals to pound except Bulls. For driving or putting in pound any Stud Horse Boar, Bull, or Ram, such impounder shall receive the sum of $2 for each of such animal. Dated this i8th December, 1882. C.PROUTY, VALENTINE RATZ, Clerk. Beit enacted by the Reeve and Municipal Cor- poration of the Township of Stephen by virtue of the authority vested in them by V 36, Cap. 48, Sec. 379, and by authority of the same, it is hereby en- acted that a feince four feet high, along the public highway shall constitute a lawful fence, to be made of good material, whether of boards, rails or wire with- out riders or locked, but that the line fences between adjoinmg larms or lots, shall be not less than five leet high, said fence if made ot rails, the first four rails to be nqt more than four inches apart. That an inspector be appointed whose duty is to see that all overseers of highways or pathmasters shall (with re- spect to said thistle act) perform, and do, what the said act requires of them to do. Whereas it is necessary that b3^-laws be passed preventing offensive substances to be put on streets be it therefore enacted by the Reeve and Municipal Council of the Township of Stephen, by virtue of the power vested in them by V36, C48, vS 379, and by the authority of the same, it is hereby enacted that from and after the passmg of this by-law. any person or persons, putting or throwing any filth, dirt, carcases of animals, ur rubbish on an\ street, lane, road or highway, in said Township of Stephen, shall incur a penalty of not less than two, nor more than ten dol- lars, recoverable at the instance of any magistrate having competent jurisdiction in said Municipality. By Law to prevent Damage to Highways and Bridges in the Municipality. ,;; Whereas it is necessary to pass a By-law to pre- vent injury to the pubhc roads and bridges in this township, be it therefore enacted by the municipal- council ot the township of^StepTien, that it shall not be lawful for any person to take from any ground set apart for the purpose ot a highway, or originally sur- veved as such and belonging to this municipality, any gravel, stone, sand, timber or other material, except by the authority of this council ; and any person taking any such ^material fr:m any road al- lowance in this municipality shall be liable to a fine of not less than five dollars nor more than twenty over and above the value of the property <:aken. Furthermore, be it hkewise enacted by the auth- ority aforesaid, that it shall not be lawful for any person to place any fence, tree, or other obstruction on any road, highway, culvert or bridge in this town- ship shall be liable to a fine of not lees than one dollar nor more than twenty dollars, and such per- son shall likewise be liable to any loss or damage which any person or persons or this municipality may sustain through the placing of such obstructions on any highway, culvert or bridge in this township. w ■HI ^■i^^P^i f***'*.'*?.-.. .1 ' BYLA WS OF THR TOWKSHlf OF STBPHFjN. Furthermore, be it enacted by the authorit}' aforesaid, that it shall not be lawful for any person to ride or drive over any bridge in this township, exceeding 30 feet in length, at a faster pace than a walk ; and any person riding or driving over any such bridge at a taster pace than a walk shall be liable to a fine of not less than one dollar nor more than twenty dollar's, and all fines imposed by this By-law shall be recoverable, with costs, before any of Her Majesty's Justices of the Peace having jurisdiction in this municipality ; and further be it enacted that all By-laws, or parts of By-laws of this municipality contrary to the provisions 01 this By-law are recinded.
