Miss Houghton is re- gorded by the American press us the greatest living reader before tlie public ; she has made a great Iiit wherever she has ajipeared, and her fame bids fair to eclipse that of the noted Scott-Sidaons. She is a very beautiful woman and understands her art thoroughly, having tlie happy faculty of expieasing by face, gtiture and voice the emotions of the heart. No doubt she will meet in Toronto the patronage she so richly de.serves; we bespeak tor her crowded houses during her brief, too brief, enj-aae- ment. Gu8 WilliamB is Hti old time favorite here and the people who went to the Opera House last night were eager to see him in his new role. " Profossor Conrad Koiser" is a character part that fits Williams admirably and allows him to display his peculiar specialty talents without marring or blemishing the run of the play. Gus Williams is a come- dian whose capacity for ere;, ing a laugh was placed in him by nature. He does not strain for eft'ects and overreach himsnif, but is so quaintly and naturally amusing that to S(0 him is to laugh. He has enough good material in the play to build up a fine chaaucter part. Miss Dora Stuart su|)portol the star to good purpose, and won a very friendly reception. — Pittsburgh Post. Mr. Gus Williams continues to attract excellent audiences to Ford's Opera House, and Oiir German Senator is unanimously elected every night to a wurni place in the hearts and recollections of every one in the audience. The play is as funny as can be, and even when the inimitable Senator is not upon the stage laugh- ter reigns supreme. There are tomical situations at, every turn ; the dialogue is filled with broad comedy, *and all the characters have charac- teristics and peculiarities intensely amusing. And when Mr. Williams is on the boards he ho'ds the house j^in his hand. He has but to look at the audience to provoke the jolliest and most good-humored of hearty laughs.
