The friends and supporters of our Church University throughout the province will he pleased to learn that as the result of the movement begun sonui three years ago in its l)ehalf, rather more than half of the $200,000, asked for by tlu; Cor|)or!iti()n for the development of the Tniveisity, has been secured. Canadian chiu-chmen have given ^(iO.OOO, aiul tlie recent appeal to churchmen in England has realized $50,000 more. Included in this latter amount is a grant of $15,000 from the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, This is made, after the custom of the Society, on the condition that some $20,000 more than is already available from Canadian and English subscriptions be raised to unset it, and the whole, or part, will lapse and be written off, unless the conditions are complied with within the next four years. This fact, coupled with the urgent necessity that still exists for the better eipiipment of the University, has led the Corporation to decide upon the innnediate re-opening of the Canadian canvass. With the strong feeling rthich now I'xists in favour of lieligious Education, and the manifest influence! that it must have upon tlie public and social morality of the country, it is of the iirst importance that the Churcli sliould have a great Christian University thoroughly eiiuipped in everv dei)artment. With tlie funds already provided tlie Corporation have happily lieen eiiiiltled to make a great step in advance. A beautiful ColU'ge Ciiap<'l has been erected and consecrated, and the privilegi; thus afforded to the students of daily service in a building so eminently iitted to aid devotional feeling is already nuiking itself distinctly felt for gfiod. Two additional Professors have been appointed, one in Divinity and ouv, in Mental and Moral Philosophy. Provision has been made for completing the endowment of tld Chair in Physical Science, and a Fellowship has been fomuled hi the Natural Sciences. In connection with these additions to the Professoriate, the course of study has been strengthened and developed in every department and now embraces, in a thorough and comprehensive way, the various subjects of a lilieral University course in k(!ephig with the greatly extended rcupiirements of the pr(!sent day. In making these changes, however great cari' has been taken to avoid the evils necessarily incident to a system of either al' options or no options. During the (irst year the under- giadiiates arc required to take a lixed course of study.
