 Odd Fellowship having ini-reased so rapiflly, tuA 
 spread its organization from th« Atlantic far out on the 
 bosom of the Paf'ifio, within a few yean, has na+uralJy 
 attracted the attention of nearly all classes of th« com> 
 mauity. 
 
 Fifty-one years have scarcely passed gince the birth of 
 Aracrican Odd Fellowship, and now oyer three hundred 
 thousand men are among its votaries. It cannot be said 
 that its growth was tlie result of accident, or in conse- 
 quence of its novelty 'for it was solely became tf its adap* 
 tatiou to the wants of man]< ind. Odd Fellowship teaches 
 in the most beautiful and forcible manner the all impor- 
 tant lesson of Fraternity— i\mt sill men aie of tne family 
 and are therefore brethren. 
 
 Th« graat duties of o»»r Order by and through whlcj» 
 we aim to improve and exalt the character of our mem-

 relieve the distressed. 8rd. To bury tfie dead. 4th. T» 
 educate the orphan. 6th. To aid the widow. And in 
 obedience to these ciommands nearly one million dollars 
 have been expeu'^'ed during the past year for these noble 
 purposes. Yet »»d(l Fellowship is n')t a mere benollcial 
 society, having for its single purpose the relief of it« 
 members in the struggles incident to human society- 
 It Meks to impiove and alevate the character of' man— to 
 imbue him with proper conceptions of his capabilitie» 
 for good, to enlighten his mind and enlarge the sphere 
 of his affections. It therefore commends itself alik«i to 
 thehii<h,the low, the rich, and the poor, as one of the 
 noblest charities the world ever saw. 
 
 The principles of Odd Fellowship are those of humanity 
 and relieioa*, its object is te promote the general good 
 of mankind, and spread abroad the light of morality and

 ITio language of our Order is more potent than any 
 strain of eloquence that ever fell up^n the ear. A stran- 
 ger, penniless and friendless, in a foreign Jand, breathes 
 its tones, and his necessities are relieved. Sickness 
 comes and lays its paralyziug hana upon him and 
 tlB&ugh no friends cr relaiives are near, a brother of tin 
 *'Mystic Tie" administers to his wants, and soothes hi* 
 distresses. The sick among our own brethren are not 
 left to the cold hand of public charity; they are visiled 
 and tlieir wants provided for, out of tl.efunds they them- 
 selves have contributed to raise, and which, in times of 
 need, they can honorably claim without the humiliation 
 of sueing for public or individual relief, froin which the 
 t'reeborn ii,ind recoils with disdain, until overwhelmed iu 
 inaufferable want and misery. We are obliged, if net'A 
 be, to perform the last solemn offiee to the remains of a 
 departed brother, and see them cons igaed with respect-

 This Lodge shall be constituted of atleasi 
 five members of the Scarlet De<yre« and

 and shall possess the full powers snd privi- 
 leges of a Subordinate Lodge holding alceal 
 unreclaimed, and valid charter, duly ^rant- 
 ed and formally presented by the Grand

 Clause 2. — Every proposition for mem' 
 bership must be submitted in writing by ft

 be referred to a committee of three brothers, 
 two of whom shall be appointed by the N. 
 G., and one by the V. G., and who shall re- 
 port thereon at the next meeting. 
 
 Clause 4.— A ballot shall be taken on 
 the proposition, immediately after the pres- 
 entation of such report; when, if. less than 
 three black balls be found, the Candidate 
 ghall be accepted ; if three or mare, he shall 
 be rejected, and so declared. 
 
 Clause 5,— Any Brother or Ancient Odd 
 Fellow, desirous of joining this Lodge, must 
 present a Card of Clearanse from the Lodge 
 of whi«h he was previously a Member ; and 
 his application shall be then disposed of ac- 
 cording to the above regulations. ^ 
 
 Clause 6.— Every member, on his ad- 
 mission shall si2jn a promise to support and 
 abide by the Constitution and By-laws of 
 this Lodge, and pay all legal demands against

 from a Lodge, may signify such desire either 
 personally in open Lodge, or by letter ad- 
 dressed to the Secretary, whereupon the 
 Lodge shall proceed to a ballot, with ball 
 ballots, and a majority vote of the members 
 ■present shall be necessary to the graniing a. 
 Card of Withdrawal. If a majority of the' 
 members present refuse to grant such a card 
 the applicant therefor may tender a written 
 resignation of his membership, and shall be 
 entitled to receive from the Secretary under 
 the Seal of the Lodge, a Certificate that h^ 
 has resigned membership, and such Certifi-^. 
 cate shall be sufhcient evidence that the. 
 Brother was in good standinof at the time of 
 his resignation ; Provided, that upon th« re- 
 fusal of the Card, the member applying for 
 the same shall have the right of Appeal to. 
 the Grand Lodge.

 ing a Card of Clearance from thi» Lodge, ap-%

 Clause 6. — The election of officert. shall

 ARTICLE IV— SESSIONS, TERMS AND RETURNS. 
 
 Sessions, 
 
 Clause L^—This Lodge shall hold its 
 meetings weekly or semi-monthly, on such 
 evening and at such time as may be provid- 
 ed by its By-laws; provided always that as 
 decided by the Grand Lodge of the United 
 States, twenty-six nights service be required 
 as the term of oifice. 
 
 Clause 2.— Special Sessions may be called 
 by the N. G., such notice thereof being giv- 
 en as may be required by the By-laws of the 
 Lodge. The notice shall contain th« par- 
 ticular reason for calling the same, and no 
 business but that expressed in such notice 
 ■hall be entered upon at such special meet- 
 ing. 
 
 Clause 3. — No business shall bo transact* 
 ted at any regular or special meetinsf unless 
 at least fire members of this Lodge be then 
 I)resent; nor otherwise than according to 
 the Rules of Order, annexed to this Consti- 
 tution. 
 
 Clause 4. — Members of other Lodges 
 may be admitted as Visitors, provided they 
 give the Pass- Word for the Term, or are 
 introduced by an Officer of the Grand Lodge.

 Clause 6.— The terms of this Lodge shall

 tributed, by any one member, to euch Wid- 
 OW49' and Orphans' Fund, within the space of 
 twenty-five years, under the By-laws of the 
 Lodge; and that, if relief be other ^-ise given, 
 the amount shall in no case exceed four times

 dues,) shall be entitled to a fair trial in ac-

 Clause 3. — When any brother, suspended 
 for an indeMnite period, for any other cau&e 
 than non-payment of dues, desires to be re- 
 instated, hi.^ case shall be referred to a Com- 
 mittee of five brothers, who after due inves- 
 tigation, shall rept)rt at the next regular 
 meeting: and if a 'iiajority of the members 
 then present shall vote in his faror, he shall 
 thereupon bo declared eligible for re-instal-

 Clause 4.— No brother shall be re-instated 
 until ho shall have liaid any arrearages 
 against him at the time of his supension, and 
 all dues that may have accrued since then. 
 
 Clause 5. — Notice of every suspension, 
 expulsion, or re-instatement, shall forthwith 
 be transmitted to every Subordinate Lodgo 
 within this Province. 
 
 Clause 6. — No brother, who has been le- 
 gally expelled, or who has ceased to be a

 TRIALS, 
 
 Clause 7. — No member of this Lodge shall 
 be put on, trial unless charges duly specify- 
 ing his alleged offence shall first be submitted

 Clause 8. — Any charge or charges so made 
 shall be referred to a Committe of hve mem- 
 bers, of whom three shall be aqnornm, to be 
 chosen by ballot; which Committee shall, 
 With as little delay as the case will admit, 
 furnish the accused with a copy of the charge 
 ©r charges, summon the parties, aind examine 
 and determine the matter in question. In

 present or not, the Lodge may proceed to

 Members of Committee failing to discharge 
 any duty incumbent upon them as such, shall

 cuse be offered: 
 
 If of the Visiting Committee for every such 
 failure, 25 cents. If of a Committee on Char- 
 acter, 25 cents. If of any other Committee, 
 not less than 25 cents for every such failure

 1. ?i^'~^^® Lodge may elect aniitiajly, by 
 baUot a Surgeon, who will attend every sick 
 brother of this Lod-e in good standing when 
 called upon by such brother, or Visiting Com- 
 Mittee, provided such brother reside in tha 
 Town of Goderich; and for every name upon 
 the quarterly list of m imbers in good stand- 
 ing, m the Town of Goderich, he shall bo 
 paid quarterly at the rate of $1 per annum. 
 
 In any case of contagion befalling a broth- 
 er of this Lodge in good standing, upon whom 
 It IS called to attend, the Surgeon shall noti- 
 fy the N. G. in writing immediately, and al- 
 ways at the close of the illness or disability 
 of any brother in good standing, he shall send 
 to the N. G. a certificate, stating the nama 
 of the brother, the name and nature, and the 
 probable cause of his illness or disability, 
 and the length of time, in his opinion, the 
 brother has been unable to attend his usual 
 occupation; and no brother shall be allowed 
 to declare on, or receive from the Funds of 
 this Lodge, fcr sick benefita, until such cer- 
 tificate, signed either by the . Lodge Surgeon 
 •r other Licensed Physician, is in possession

 Rule VII. —Any member may require the 
 oivision of a question when the sense will 
 admit of it. 
 
 Rule VIII. —When a blank is to be filled,

 est sum or number, and longest or latest 
 time proposed. 
 
 Rule IX.—The Yeas and Nays shall be 
 taken and recorded, on the call of any mem- 
 ber, duly seconded. 
 
 Rule X.— A-iter any question, except that

 the Presiding Oflicer shall determine which 
 is entitled to the floor. 
 
 Rule XIV. — The Presiding Officer, or any 
 Member, may call a Brother to order while 
 speaking; and, in such case, the debate shall 
 be forthwith suspended, and the Brother so 
 called to order shall not proceed, until the 
 point of order thus raised be determined, 
 nor speak upon such point of order, unless it 
 be to make necessary explanation, or appeal 
 from the decision of the Chair, 
 
 Rule XV. — In all cases where a Mcmbet 
 may appeal from any decision of the Chair, 
 he shall use the words following, and none

 Rule XVII.— The Presiding Officer, or

 tion, or may excuse any Member or Members

 Rule XVIIL —Brothers, not Members of 
 this Lodge, may address the Lodge, on re- 
 ceiving permission to that effect from the 
 Presiding Officer. 
 
 Rule XIX.— No brother shall retire, while 
 the Lodge is open, without the permission of 
 the Presiding Officer.
