This Apsociation shall be known as the Royal !NovA ScoTU Yacht j^q'jadron, and shall be com- p€-.eJ oi Yaoht and Boat owners, and gentlemen desirous ot encoui aging amateur yacht and boat sailing. No person shall be a member of the Squadron who receives remuneration for services rendered in hand- ling or serving on board any yacht. BY-LAWS. XII. Alterations In By-I^aws, Sailing: Rnles, and House Rules. Any alteration in the By-Laws, Sailing Rules, and House Rules, must be proposed in writing by a member at a Regular Meeting of the Squadron, and a vote taken on it at the next, due notice of the proposed alteration having been given to each member. A two-thirds vote of members present shall alter the rule, and the alteration shall come into force immediately. A notice of motion shall be considered as brindnir up tor discussion the whole sul)ject to which such notice relates, and when the same comes up for dis- cussion, an}^ amendment relating to such subject may be oflfered. But if the chairman of the meeting be of opinion that any such amendment so materially alters the scope of the notice that a postponement of the discussion is advisable, he may adjourn the con- sideration thereof until the next meeting. HOUSE RULES. IX. Berths i i the Boat House for boats and canoes, will be allotted to Members in order of application, so far as space will permit. Application must be made in writing upon the forms provided for that purpose. In the event of simultaneous appli- cations being made by two or more members, the senior member shall take precedence. The positions of berths shall be at the discretion of the Committee, and they shall have power to change any member's berth should they consider it expedient to do so. Each member occupying a berth in the Boat House, shall be charged $2.00 a year for each boat, and $1.00 a year for each canoe, from the 1st of January of each year. XIV. The Club premises shall be for the use of membeis, but members shall have the privilege cf introducing ladies on the following occasions, viz : — 5 At all timos the facilities of the Wharf and Boat House only, are extended to ladies for the purpose of embarking in or landing from yachts or boats. After 8 o'clock p. m., the Club premises other than the Club House, are open to ladies accompanied by members. On lace days, and on such occasions as appointed by the Committee of Management, the Club premises shall be open to ladies ; but on one race day in each year, to be selected by the Committee of" Manage- ment, and notice of same printed in the fixtuies, the Club premises shall not be open to ladies. The family of a member keeping a boat may be permitted to use the boat, on application to the Committee of Management. A boat can be removed from the Club premises by persons other than the owner or his family, only on written order to the caretaker. XVIII. No member shall give any money or gratuity to any of the servants, nor permit strangers to do so. No servant of the Squadron will receive, under penalty of dismissal, any present whatever from members or guests. MEMBERS OF THE SQUADRON. West, on 19th August, 1887, (Jubilee Regatta) and by them presented to the S(|uadron 16th January, 1890, under the following con- ditions, viz. : — Conditio7is. — A cup to be competed for annually over a course not less than twenty nautical miles, between 1st July and 1st October, open to yachts duly enrolled in any recognized Yacht Club. The winner to hold this cup for eleven months, giving a bond to the trustees to the amount of ^100.00, after which the cup to be returned to the trustees. BauM " Royal Engineers' Yacht Club Cup." — Presented on the occasion of their jubilee year to the Officers of the Koval Engineers stationed at Halifax, N. 8., and by them handed to this Squadron 28th May, 1898, to be sailed for under its auspices. Conditions — That it be competed for annually at Halifax, N. S., race to be open to yachts duly enrolled in any recognized Yacht Club. The winner shall hold the cup for oie year. H. the Prince of Wales, in the year ISGO, and by the siii"vivin«j; memliers of the lloyal Halifax Yacht Club pre- sented 21st June, 1898, to this Scjuadron as a perpi'tual cliallenge cup, under the following con- ditions, viz. : — Conditions — That it be competed foi* annually over a course not less than twenty-five nautical n:al(^s, between 1st July and 1st October. The races for this cup shall be open to all yael 's ex- ceeding 3 rating, duly enrolled in any recognized Yacht Club. The winner shall hold this cup for nine mor. ths, giving a bond to the trustees to the amount oi $100.00, if he be a resident of the City of Halifax, N. 8. If not, the amount of the bond shall be $1000.00. Vice-Commodore's Trophies. — Tw^o .rophies, presented to the Squadron by Col. H. deS. Isaacson, Vice-Commodore, 19th Jan., 1899. One to be competed for l)y yachts under three r.4,ting, and the other by yachts of three rating and over daring the season of 1899. Conditions —The winners shall hold the trophies subject to challenges from any yacht or yachts of the Squadron defeated in the first races, challenj,e'-^ to be made within a fortnight, and races to be • 35 ' sailed within a month from dates of winning. In the event of the trophies being won in second races by the previous winners, the trophies shall be re- tained outright ; but if won by a challenging yacht, the ownership shall ])e decided by a match between the first and second winners. The dates and other particulars of the second and third races (if required) shall be arranged by the Hailing Com- mittee. In the event of no challenges, the trophies shall become the property of the wmners. M
