 TRAINING SCHOOL FOR NURSES.

 Thia Srhool (iflTers ii two years' course of training to women desirous 
 of beconiin}^ professional nurses. A Committee from the Woman's 
 Auxiliary, tojiether with a Committee from the Medical Staff, constitute 
 the Board of Control of the Training School. Applications for admission 
 are to he nuide to the Superintendent. 
 
 Applicants must be between the ages of 25 and 35, in sound health, of 
 good education, and furnish satisfactory testimonials as to character. 
 A blank form of application will bo sent, which is to be filled out in the 
 applicant's own handwriting and returned with the required references 
 and physician's certificate to the Superintendent. 
 
 Immediately upon the arrival of a probationer, the Superintendent 
 will subject her to an examination, written and oral, to ascertain her 
 educational (lualifications, and this will be fidlowed by an examination 
 by a mend)er of the Staff of Physicians. 
 
 If the result of these is satisfactory, she will (niter on the term of 
 prol)ation, usually one month, during which she will be boarded and 
 lodged in the Hospital, but will receive no compensation. She will he 
 subject to the rules of the Hospital, and be under the authority of the 
 Superintendent of the Training School, who, in connection with the 
 Committee, will at the end of the month, determine her fitness for work. 
 
 If approved, she will he acceptcil as a pupil, and must sign a written 
 agreement to remain in the School for two years, and to obey the rules of 
 the institution. For a period of not less than 12, no more than 18 months, 
 at the discretion of the Superintendent, she will be emijloyed in the wards 
 of the Hospital, after this time she may be sent out to nurse private cases, 
 and the renmneratiou received therefor will belong to the Hospital. 
 A vacation of two weeks will be given her each year. A probationer 
 should bring with her : — Two dresses, of gingham or calico, made plainly, 
 six or eight large white aprons, two bags for soiled cloths, one pocket 
 match-box, one pocket tape measure, one pin ball, one needle case, one 
 thimble, one pair scissors, one lead pencil, one rubber, one pair comfort- 
 able noiseless shoes; as few things in the way of knicknacks of any kind 
 as possible, and no expensive clothing. All clothing should be plainly 
 marked with the last mime of the owner. When accepted, nurses must 
 provide themselves with one pair of forceps, two probes, one pair surgical 
 scissors, and the uniform worn by the school. 
 
 After the first year, the nurses must provide themselves with one 
 clinical themometer, two catheters, one medicine glass, one hypodermic 
 syringe, one warm wrapper, and one warm sacque.

 made up. She will receiv(» an allowance of three dollars a m mth for the

 and seven dollars a month for the last cijxht months. 
 
 When the full term. (»f two years, has been completed, if she has passed 
 the reipiired examinations and is otherwise satisfactory, the nnrsi; will 
 receive the Diploma of t!ie School, certifying to the re^rnlar course of 
 training and prai-tice, and will then be permitted to wear the graduate's 
 badge, of the Scliool. 
 
 The rijrht is reserved by the authorities of the school to terminate the 
 connection of a nur.se with the school, at any time, for any cause whii-li 
 they deem sullicient 
 
 The ('(jurse of Lectures by the IMiysicians of the Staff will he^rin in 
 October and end in May. 
 
 Tlie riiysicians of the Siatf of Instruction, to^rether with the Superin- 
 tendent, will decide upon the (lualificration of the Candidate for {graduation. 
 
 Each examiner will mark the result on a scale of lUO, and will f(»r- 
 i ward a sealed report of his ratinjj; of each candidate to the Secretary of the 
 Trainin*; SeliO(j| Committee. 'J'he ratinj; ^iven a nurse hy the Superin- 
 tendent is to be based upon her observaticui and ^'cneral know led}xe of the 
 nurse's practical ellicienoy, character, deportment and acceptability, and 
 not alt()},'ether the result of a special examination. No Nurse will he 
 graduated who fails to achieve an average SO'o of the whole marks of

 4. She shall take entire charge of her own room ; and wherever on 
 duty, in the Hospital, or at private cases, the regulations of the School 
 w ith regard to dress are to be observed. 
 
 f). No more than eighteen pieces are to be put in the family wash, 
 jind no white skirts. 
 
 (». All worries of every kind must be kept away from the sick room, 
 and the patient's comfort and peac i of mind must l)e carefully stutlied by 
 the nurse. She shall never, under any circumstances, relate to the 
 patient sad or exciting experiences in other cases, and shall maintain 
 a dignilied reticence in regardto the disease, its treatment, or the methods 
 of other physicians. 
 
 7. In going otf duty at any time, she must leave written instructions 
 w ith her deputy. 
 
 5. When nursing in families where theri; are no servants, if lier 
 attention be not of necessity w holly devoted to the patient, the nurse is 
 e.xpected to make herself generally useful. She is to be careful not to 
 increase the expense of the family in any way. 
 
 9. She is most earnestly charged to hold sacred the knowledge, 
 which to a certain extent she must obtain, of the private atfairs of such 
 households or individuals as she may attend. 
 
 10. The nurse shall always bring back witii her a report of her 
 condnct and efficiency from a member of the family, or the atteneling 
 physician.

 RULES FOR PATIENTS. 
 
 Friends may visit patients, Sun<lay and Wednesdav, between 2 and 
 4 p. m. 
 
 No patient may see more than two friends at once, unless by special 
 perDussion from the Medical Superintendent. 
 
 Patients washing to he done by «heir friends. • 
 
 Patienta to be bathed or sponged at least once a week. 
 
 Patients may not go fron» one Ward to another. 
 
 No visitor will bo allowed to give any article of foo.l without 
 permission from the Superintendent. 
 
 Patient's clergyman may visit him at any time. 
 
 Patients admitted between 12 and i p. m., by the Medical Super-
