AGENDA FOR ANNUAL MEETING. \] RAILWAY ARRANGEMENTS FOR ANNUAL MEETING IN VICTORIA, B.C. The terms o'.. J by the Railway Companies, arranged in agreement with each other, are — a rate of one way First Class fare and one quarter for the round trip to Victoria, B.C., from all points in the Dominion, on the certificate plan, which provides for the purchase of a one-way ticket on the trip out, at which time a certificate must be secured from the ticket agent. The Railway Companies restrict these rates to those Members of Council, who are women, to the exclusion of our men Members, that is : — to Members of any Society federated with the Council either Nationally or Locally, and to subscribing Members who have been accepted by the National or Local Executives. It will be necessary for Members going to the meeting to procure from the President of their Local Council a certificate of membership, signed by herself. This certificate of membership, along with the railway certificate procured from the ticket agent when starting, must be handed to the Corresponding Secretary at the opening of Council and must be signed by her to be valid when presented to the ticket agent at Victoria in order to secure the reduction for the return journey. Members of Council desirous of taking the trip should inquire of their local agents as to price of ticket. Sleepers and food en route are additional expenses. As to the former, the Council will charter a sufficient number of Tourist Cars at the rate of $25.00 a day. There are 28 double berths in a Tourist Car, so if all are occupied the average expense will be less than $1.00 a day. As, however, the Council cannot undertake the risk of empty berths, the rate per diem is not quite definitely fixed, but it is hoped that it will not exceed $1.00 a day. The usual Tourist rate from Tor- onto is $7.50 for the four days occupied by the journey to Van- couver. A double berth will be allowed to each passenger, but if any member wishes to share a berth with a friend they may also share the expense of the berth. The Companies will permit, in our case, of three or four stop- overs going and coming, the time limit of tickets to be the 31st of August, when the holder of the ticket will have to arrive at her starting point. It will be permissible to sleep in the cars during the stop-overs, so that extra sleeping expenses need not be incur- re 1 at hotels or elsewhere. V 300. -^^6, \ f-: NATIONAL COUNCIL OF The party will star, rem Montreal and Toronto on the nth 1 2th or 13th July, stoppintr over at Port Arthur on Saturday the 14th; at Wninipej,' on Monday the i6th, at Brandon or RoLnna on Tuesday the 17th, at Sicamous on Thursday the 19th, in order to proceed to Vernon, where the party will he entertained at Cold- stream, Lord and Lady Aberdeen's ranch, and arrivinjf at Victoria at 6,30 on Saturday eveninj^ the 21st. The lake route may be taken either ^om^ or comintj without additional charge ; if taken both ways the cost will be $4 2c additional. Those intending to take this route in the C.P.R boat on the 1 2th should note that they may have to secure their berth in the Tourist Car from Toronto or Montreal. Those taking the beautiful G.T.R. route may start on the 12th and if they are in sufficient numbers that Company will arrange for their car to await them at Port Arthur. Tbo G.T.R. may also arrange for return by the United States. *" All Tourist Car arrangements for members East of Montreal including Ottawa will be made by Miss Wilson, who will receive applications for berths up to June 30th. Arrangements for mem- bers going from Toronto and Ontario generally will be made by Lady Taylor ; we shall be obliged to leave the Western Councils to make up Tourist Cars for themselves, partly because we are liable to be charged for the whole route if chartering them here and also because of the shortness of the time since the terms for the West have been made known to us. The Winnipeg Passeneer Superintendent will doubtless assist the Western Councils. The meals in the dining-car attached to the train" are-— breakfast and dinner at 75 cents each and lunch k la carte. At- tached to each car there is a small kitchen, or cooking-stove where those who wish to do so may prepare meals for themselves' It may be pointed out that the accomodation in the cars is limited and that passengers should only take what is absolutely requisite in the way of clothing for the journey. Some warm wraps are, however, very advisable for the passage through the mountains and in the steamers. Those who intend taking their own food should see that their baskets or parcels do not exceed 2 tt. in length, 18 inches in width and 11 inches in height, or they cannot be stowed away under the seats and will prove a serious incubus to their owners and their fellow passengers. • With regard to the return journey, it is felt that Members of Council should be left to make their own arrangements individually always remembering that the Tourist Cars can be chartered by those-who wish to make up a party to return together and that they have the right to four stop-overs on the way back. Indi- viduals can also secure berths in the Tourist Cars, which run regularly twice a week, or take the Pullman as they prefer t s c tl 7 WOMEN OF CANADA. IRotee 30 to arrangements. I. In the following agenda no intimation has been made of the places in which the various meetings are to be held. OwinL' to distance and other causes, it has been considered advisable to print this agenda at Headquarters, Ottawa, as it stands and to ask the Victoria Council to arrange a separate sheet giving all local arrangements such as place of meeting, any entertainments which they may desire to arrange for and the names and addresses of those who have kindly undertaken to entertain our delegates. I. Full information as to hostesses will be handed to delegates on their arrival at Vancouver, as it may not be possible to have all arrangements made before the start on their long journey. Invited speakers will also receive hospitality. F-or the benefit of Members of Council attending the Meetings for whom hospitality is not provided, information has been received that the Y.W.C.A. can take in sixteen members at 75 cents a dav or more It rooms are shared. The Dominion Hotel offer a rate of *i^ooa day for a party of over fifty if they stay for one week or 9 . .J\}^^^^^'^'i introduction should be given to each Delegate to the National Council or Member attending the Annual Meeting- by her own Local Council or National Society, according to our rules Each President of a Local Council or National Society has been furnished with forms for these, and each Delegate or Member IS requested to deliver her letter of introduction to Miss Teresa F Wilson, the Corresponding Secretary. 4- Delegates and Members are also requested to have their ' Railway Certificate re? ' ■ to hand to the Corresponding Secretarv during the Meeting of .. .:.,cil on Tuesday, 24th July They will be returned when signed .t a time which will be announced during the course of the Meeting. '' 5- Each Delegate is asked to read over carefully the Constitu- tion and Standing Orders of the National Council as given in the small Hand-book, as familiarity with these greatly helps the pro- cedure of business. i> / f p.u ,u ^•.^.^s^.^'^'J seats will be kept for Delegates in the front of / the Hall during the Council Meetings and Conferences. (See Rule 7 in Section i of Standing Orders.) I PROVINCIAL U3RAR^ VICTORIA, B. C. 195705 NATIONAL COUNCIL OF / 7. Other Members of the Niitional and Local Councils or Members of the Societies affiliated to these Coimcils will occupy the remainder of the body of the Hall. 8. It will be recollected that all Members of Council (that is, Members of the affiliated Societies of any Local Council or National Society) can take part in the discussions, but that only Delegates can vote. 9. Each session of the Council will commence promptly at the hour appointed. Delegates are earnestly requested to be in their places punctually. 10. It is the usual custom that ten minutes be allowed for the mover of each resolution ; five minutes for the seconder, and three minutes for all other speakers, except for the mover of an amend- ment, to whom it is proposed to allot five minutes. 11. A time-keeper will be appointed to strike a bell when the allotted time has elapsed, and no speaker can continue after this except by the unanimous request of the Council. 12. All who intend to speak on any subject will be requested to send up their names to the Chair at the beginning of each new discussion ; and it is earnestly urged that each speaker should come to the platform, as by this means only can the Members of Council have an equal chance of hearing what is said. 13. It will be remembered that a request was made last year that no other meetings should be held while the Sectional Confer- ences were going on. In deference to this request each Sectional Conference is given one hour and a half on one afternoon, during which time no other meetings are going on. It is hoped in this way to secure good attendance. These meetings must, however, close promptly at the time indicated, as the Hall will be required for another meeting. 14. Delegates are requested to come with instructions as to how many Verbatim Reports will be required by their Council. 15. The Corresponding Secretary will send to each Council a number of ribbon badges with the name of each Council or National Society printed on the badge and every Delegate is requested kindly to wear this ribbon on arrival at Victoria and also during the Meetings of Council in order to enable the Reception Committee to recognize them on arrival and for the general con- venience of the Members of the Council.
