ARTICLE I. — Same.
The association shall be kno'.vn as the " U2.10N Club, St.
John, N. B."
ARTICLE II. — Officers.
The Officers of the Club shall consist of a President, Vice-
President and Secretary-Treasurer, to be elected by ballot at
each annual meeting. In case of a vacancy in any of the above
offices the same shall be filled at a special meeting to be called
for the purpose.
ARTICLE III. — Aiimial Mcetisifr.
The annual meeting of the Club shall be held on the third
Monday in June in «.ach year.

City of St. John, who shall desire so to do, shall, upon pay-
ment of the entrance fee, and of the full animal subscription,
as provided hy Article XIII, become an ordinary niembe;', and
be entitled to all the privileges of the Cluh. Provided, how-
ever, that a privileged member who shall become a jyermanent
resident within twenty-live miles of the Oity of St. John, as
aforesaid, shall nolifv the Secretary, in writing, of his intention
to avail himself of the provisions of this .Art'cic, and shall
pay said entrance fee within three months al'ter becoming a
])ermanent resident.

Clerks of any of the foreign banks doing business in St. John,
and other eligible persons who shall satisfy the committee that
their residence in St. John is teniporary, may be elected in the

The Constitution and Rules of the ( lub may be altered,
amended, or re|teaied at any annual meetiuf^ of the Club, or
any special meetinj? called for the purpose, by a vote of the
majority of the members present at such meetiuf;-. Sever days
previous notici' of any proposed alteratioii, amendment or
repeal shall he j^iven in writing, signed by at least live mem-
bers of the Club, by jjosting the same in a conspicuous place
in the Clul) rooms.
ARIKIJ] XXVf.-Slraiigrrs.
Any member shall be allowed to introduce a stranger, but
no person residing within twenty-live miles of the City shall
be eligible to be introduced as a stranger or guest of a member.
Any member of the Club, however, entertaining strangers in
the private dining room, shall have the privilege of inviting
persons residing within the said twenty-live miles to meet
Ihem at dinner or luncheon; but such j'esidents shall, before
either ot" such meals, have the privilege of the reception room
only, but after dining may have the privileges of the Club
generally while they remain in the building.

ARTICLK XX VI I. — Honorary Members.
Any member wishing to introduce a friend temporarily visit-
ing 8t. John, and not residing within twenty-live miles of the
City, as an honorary member of the Club, must send in a
written application for permission to do so to the Secretary-
Treasurer; or ho must obtain the signature of two members of
the committee to his application as approving it. The appli-
cation thus signed must be handed to the Secretary-Treasurer,
who shall notify the person named therein that he has been
admitted to the Club for fourteen days; and this privilege
may be extended with the consent of the committee for the
fui'ther period of one month. P^very member to whom this
[jcrmissiou may be accorded will be held resi)onsible for the
eligibility of his nominee, as well as for his observance of all
rules of the Club. No stranger oni'e introduced shall again
be introduced unless in the meantime he has been absent from
the city for three months; and no stranger can be admitted
under this rule more tlian twice in one year. The com-
mittee shall have [)owei', however, to revoke at any time any
privilege conferred under this Article.
ARTICLE XXVIII.- Hours.
The Club shall be open for the reception of members between
the hours of eijit o'clock, a. m., ;uid one o'clock, a. m , except
on Saturdays, when all lights must be out and doors dosed at
twelve o'clock, midnight. On Sundays the Club siiall le open
from eight o'clock, a. m., till eleven o'clock, p. m.

aging committee.
ARTICLE XXX.- Price of Cards.
Each person playing at cards in the Chib rooms shall pay
fifteen cents for new and five cents for old cards.
ARTICLE XXXI.-Wliisl Laws.
The laws of whist as set out in "Cavendish" and "Clay-
Baldwin" are adopted by this Club (except in regard to the
rubber points, which shall be four instead of two), and all points
in dispute regarding the game of whist shall be settled by the
authority of the above books.
ARTICLE XXXIL- »ws|»apers. Magazines, He.

He shall have general control and superintendence of the Cook
and men and women servants, and will be responsible for their
conduct and cleanly appearance, anil, in case of misconduct,
shall report the same to the Secretary or Committee.
He shall have charge of all Wines and Liquors in the bottling
and supply cellar, shall issue the same to the Waiters, and will
be charged with all deficiencies that may occur in the stock
of Whines, Liijuors, or other proi)erty placed in his custody.
He sliall account daily to the Secretary for all receipts of
moneys, i)repare Bills of Fare, after consulting the Secietary as
to taritl' charges, etc., and shall send each day to the Secretary
the Bill of the preceding day.
He shall see to the good order of the J louse generally.
He shall cater for the Club, keei)ing Pass P.ooks with ap-
proved tradesmen, and entering in similar Pass Book, at the
time of i)urcliase, all sup[)lies bought in market. These books
to be made U[) weekly, and left witii the Secr< tary.
He shall check daily supplies to and withc'rawals from the
Wine Cellar. He shall examine and check tradesmin's books
and bills, seeing that charges are reasonable and in accordance
with goods received.
He shall enter in the Order Book everything necessary to
be purchased by the Chil), and all necessary repairs,- for the
sanction of the Committee before further action.

He shall enter in his book once a day the name of every
member coming into the House, and will see that members
introducing strangers write their name and address, with that

Strangers calling to see members of the Club will be shown by
him into the Kecei)tion Hall, or other room set apart by the
Committee for that purjtose, and intimation of their arrival
immediately sent by him to the mend)er eiKpiired for, if in the
House. If H letter for an absent mend)er be called for by any
other member who may wish to forward it, the latter will be
reijuired to pay the postage (if any), and to sign an acknowledg-
ment in the Porter's book of his having received the letter, in
case of future (piestion. He will have charge of the Lavatory
on tlif first lloor, Cloak Room, and tires in the Morning Room.
He will render all possil)le assistance to the Steward, and per-
form such other duties as the Conmiittee may from time to time
direct.
WAITERS.
The Waiters and other servants in the establishment will be
subject to the orders t>f the Steward, and will perform such duties
as he may prescribe.

GENERAL SERVANTS' REGULATIONS.
No Servant will absent himself or herst-lf from the Club
House, except on business, and the Servants are strictly pro-
hibited from receiving visitors, except as herein before provided,
or followers. •
No Servant will receive, under penalty of dismissal, any
present whatever from the members, guests, or tradesmen of the
Chib.
Servants while on duty will not talk to each other except on
matters connected with their business, and no Servant is permit-
ted to address an individual menjber in the house on matters
personal or relative to the concerns of the Club — all comuunii-
cations of the latter kind to be made through the Steward to the
House Committee.
If any money or articles supposed to be the property of mem-
bers shall be found by the Servants in the Club House, they shall
be delivered to the Steward.
The Servants' entrance in the rear will be under lock, and the
key thereof be in the custody of the Steward, and Servants must
not enter or go out of the Club except by Servants' entrance at
the rear of the building.
No large boxes or articles of luggage belonging to members
will be admitted into the hall.
No application for reinstatement of a Servant, who may have
been dismissed on the representation of a member, will be read
or taken into consideration unless it comes through and be
recommended by the member by whose representation he or she
was dismissed.
Servants will be held responsible for breakage and loss of
and damage to the property of the Club.

HOUSE RULES.
No Servant of the Club shall be sent out of the house on
any errand or pretence whatever, unless upon CHub business by
the Stewaid, Secretary, or member of Committee, or to post
letters at stated periods.
COFFEE ROOM.
Breakfast may be served from 8 until 10 o'clock, a. ra.
Hot Lunches and Dinners from 1 to 2.30 p. m., and from 6
to 8 p. m.
Hot Suppers up to 10 o'clock, [>. m., on giving notice before
8 (j'<'l<)ck.
No Wine or Liquor shall be served to any member in the
CoHce Koom, except with Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or Su[)per.
Members will fill up their Bills for meals themselves, and
nuist on no account employ the waiters to do so.
No hat, cap, stick, or umbrella shall be taken into the Coffee
Room.
Articles of glass, earthenware, etc., which may be broken by
the members, either in the Coffee Room or elsewhere in the
house, will be paid for by them at prices to be fixed by the
Committee. PRIVATE DINING ROOM.
The Private Dining Room and Card Room may be engaged
by ii party of imt less than four for their exclusive use during
the (veiiinsi, by giving notice to the Steward on the morning
of the day on which the room would be recpiired, and on
>iich terms as the Committee may direct.
BILLIARD ROOM.
The following regulations will be in force in this room :
1st. The Game of '\)ol shall have clioiee of tables, and take
piecedeiue over Billiards and Pyramids, and nuiy be played
in ronseeiitive games.

2nd. For Hilllards and Pyramids the tables oan only be en-
gaged for one game of" 50 or 100 points. Precedence in iday-
ing and choice of tables given according to entry of names on
the marker's slate. Players of Billiards shonld intimate to the
marker whether they intend to play a game of 50 or 100 points.
The charges will be as follows:
Pool — Five cents per ball. Stars to pay extra.
Pin-Pool — Two cents per cne. No extra charge for bnrsts.
Black-Pooi, — Ten cents per cue per hour.
Billiards — Ten cents for a game of 50. Fifteen cents for
a game of 100 points, or two consecutive games of 50.
Pyramids — Ten cents per game.
Carom Games — Four Balls — Hfteen cents for a game of 50
points. Ten cents for a game of 34 points. No Carom game
to exceed 100 points. .
Threk Balls— Thirty cents per game of 100 points; twenty
cents per game of 50 points; fifteen cents per game of .34 points.
Other Games. — By the hour, fifty cents.
Players are particularly requested, innnediately after play, to
obtain their cheeks and deposit them in the box.
The marker is instructed, on the conclusion of each game,
to present to the loser a check for the amount of the game,
together with the box in which the same is to be deposited.
Any member may use any of the billiard tables for practice,
paying for such privilege twenty cents an hour, or ten cents a
hidf-liour — no charge being less than ten cents — provided
that no member shall be allowed to use any table for prac-
tice to the exclusion of two or more members who may desire
to play a game of billiards or pool ; and if any player be so
l)ractising he shall at once cease doing so, if two or more
members desire the use of the table.

HOUSE RULES.
CARDS.
Each person playing at cards in tlie Clnh rooms slinll pay
fifteen cents for new cards, and five cents for second-linnd cards.
The cards will l)e the property of the Club, and shall be
taken cliarge of by (lie attenartment the fault exists, who shall take
measures for correcting it, communicating the result for the
satisfaction of the party complaining.
A member shall be responsible for any debt to the Club
incurred by any strangers he may have introduced.
No Wines, Licpiors, or Refreshments shall be furnished in
the Reading Room, and no conversation shall be carried on
therein.
The Local Daily Papers are on no account to be taken out
of the Reading Room during the day or evening of publication,
nor any other papers for one day after they arc laid on the table.
Sandwiches or Biscuits may be served to mend)crs in the
Jvcception, Billiard, and Card liooms up to one-half hour
before the hour of dosing.

Tlie Wine Room sluill be closed every evening one-half hour
before the hour of closing the Chib.
Supplies nuist be paid for immediately upon presentation of
checks for same.
Writing Materials will be provided for the use of members
in the Reading Room, and in the Private Dining Room when
not engaged.
The Steward is forbidden, luider penalty of dismissal, to fur-
nish supplies to any member of the Club who has been posted
for the period of one week for non-payment of any sum other
than quarterly or annual dues, until such indebtedness shall
have been paid.
No games other than Whist and Cribbage shall be played in
the Whist Rooms.
No games will be [)layed in the Club on Sunday.
Dogs will not be allowed within the Club House.
No rubber of Whist shall be connnenced after 12.45 o'clock,
a. m.
The word " Arrears" or " Dues" shall be construed to mean
all sums due the Club from any mend)er.
Complaints of any dcticlency in the service of the Club, of
overcharges, mischarges, mistakes, or defects, must be matle in
writing to the House Connnittcc.
No pamphlet, advertisement, or notice of any kind shall be
allowed to be laid on the table or put up in the Club by a
meml»er.
No one who has been up for election, and who has been
black-balled shall be eligible to be introduced as a guest or as
an honorary member of the Club, unless and until his name
has been sultmitted to the committee of management, and their
permission for such inti 'duction first obtained.

GAMES.
Whist, Euflire, All-Fours, Hearts, Kcarte, Cribbage, Forty-
Fives, Billiards, Chess, (,'heckers, Nnp, Dominos, and Backgam-
mon only can be played in the Club. No Dice shall be used
in the (!lub except at Backgammon.
Members shall not have at stake, directly or indirectly, more
than the following amounts on any of the above-mentioned
games, and any member violating this rule will be liable to
suspension :
Whist — Ten cent points.
Euchre, Forty-Fives, All-Fours, Ecarte, and Cribboye — Twenty-
tive cents per game.
Nap — Ten cent limit.
Hearts — Ten cents a card.
INDEBTEDNESS.
No member shall be served with supplies until any I. O. U.,
unpaid check or other debt contracted by him at any former
appearance in the Club, be settled.
