To the Oncers and Members of the Grand Council of the Catholic Mutual Benefit Association of Canada : ■ , Brothers : We the members of your Finance Committee respectfully re- port that we have made a careful and thorough examination of the books, accounts, and vouchers of the Grand Secretary and Grand Treasurer for the year ending December 3 1 st, 1893, and find the same correct and as above set forth. We also compared the accounts of the Grand Treasurer with the accounts of the Grand Secretary and found them to agree in every particular and we are pleased to state that the Books and accounts of the Grand Secretary are as usual kept in a manner highly satisfactory to your committee. We find that the work of the Grand Secretary's Office has been very much increased by tlie change necessitated on account of financial separation of our Grand Council from the Supreme. He has now to make out all the Beneficiary Certificates, arrange and nuudier all applications and medical Certificates, keep a register of all the names of members of our Association the number of the Brancli to which they belong, the date of iniiiation of each member, the date of issuing Beneficiary Certificates, the designaition of such Certificate, and all subsequent changes in such designation. He has also to make out the monthly Assessment notices and all orders for payment of Beneficiaries ; also an annual report in triplicate for the Ontario Government The extraordinary work entailed by this necessitated the employment of additional help for whicji we strongly recommend our Executive Committee to reimburse him. We have examined into the further requirements of the Grand Secretary's Office, and find that now the safe therein is merely sufficient to contain the iiMi 'M |^. i ^,|H'f ' - "^' -y ip' .* . [.U- ■i mrr^T^- W vyiTfmi ■ammr 'IP books, and that all the important doouments, saoh as applioation, Medical Cer- tifiOatea, bvanch reports etc., are insorted in pigeon holes which a£Ford no pro- tection whatever in case of ftre. We therefore recommend that the Grand Secretary be at once authorised to procure sufficient vault room for said docu- ments. We are sorry to be again compelled to call attention to Branch Reports. In this audit we find 58 Branches have not reported at all, and of the others which did report the great majority were useless, an when compared with the reports which accompanied the assessment remittances only a comparative few were found correct. This state of things ought not to exist, as a proper statement should always be easily made out from Branch Treasurers' Books. It is the opinion of your auditors that the making out of this Report properly belongs to the Financial Secretary of the Branch. In conclusion we have to express our sincere gratification at the great progress made by the Association since last Convention, showing an increase of forty-two Branches and a corresponding increase in membership. All of which is respectfully submitted. ■'^^i
