A survey was made of the property and it was adverlisei' for sale in London, under the powers of sale in the mortgages, on Tuesday, August 7, 184t>, and four following days. This sale did not take place as negotiations were on foot by a number of gentlemen to form a company and buy in the estate, which however fell through. By the above survey, even after three generations of reck- less extravagance, during which the estates in the other counties within mentioned and those in the east of the county Gaj'vay and also many large portions in the west had been sold, there nevc^r- theless yet remained, in round uumljers, 197,(KX) statute acres ! The unsold portion of the estate ut that time was 192,000 statute acres. By order dated Nov. 9, 1863, the Manor of Clare, owse Claremont, was sold together with all the " manoral rights, privileges and advantages thereto incident,' to- gether with the right to hold Courts Leet and Baron " as the same were granted to Captain Richard Martin by Letters Patent," and the right to hold fairs and weekly markets at the town of Clare, and to levy tolls and curtoms thereat, and to hold a Court of Pie Poudre during the continuance of such fairs, etc., and the rights to hold fairs, and a similar Court at the town of Roundstone, part of said estate.
