AGGREGATE VALUE OF BUILDINGS ERECTED IN 1889 COSTING $1,800 OR OVER - J$600,000. THE REASONS OF THE OUOWTH OF WEST TO- RONTO JUNCTION. I. Its Situation. Lying" to the noi-tli-west of the city of Toronto, five miles fi-om tjie corner of Yon^e and King- Streets. Hig-h Park lies on the southern limit of the town, shutting' off the g-rowth of Toronto on tiie south- west, and thus forcing* all the \.estern g-rowth of that city into West Toronto Junction. The distance from Toronto is sufficiently g"re:it to make of West Tomnto Junction a commercial centre, and thus business men ha\'e all the advantages of the rapid growth of a western city, within fifteen minutes' run of Toronto. .2. The Advantages ()yyrR::D to Manufacturers: The proximity to Toronto, the cenii-e of commercial competition in Ontario; unrivalled shipping- facili- ties; the privileg-es gnmted by the cor[)oration to factories Iwatingf in the town [see inside of cover); cheap factory si tea ; cheap houses for employees; good fii-e protection. WEST TORONTO JUXCTION. 3. The Natural Beauty of the Residential Quarter. The greater part of the land south of the railway is subject to building- restrictions. Hons^, of a certain class only can be erected. I'he land lying- south of the station is intersected by numerous thickly- wooded ravines affording more beautiful sites for dwelling-sthancanbe found anywhei-e within the same distance of Toronto. The elevation is high overlooking- Lake Ontario ; the soil is sandy, and absorbs all moisture rapidly. Residents have all the enjoyment of High Park at their doors, while the expense of maintaining- it is lx)rne by the city of Toronto. Local Improvements. Two fine subways are in course of ei-ection under the Canadian Pacific Railway on Kcele Stiwt and the Weston Road. These will afford jerfect com- munication tetween the northern ar.d s(>uthern por- ' tions of tJie town, and will opea up a connecticn with some of the finest farming- districts in Ontario. 27,500 fGf^t of sidewalks have l^een laid down during- the pist yetxr. Block-i^tivingr has been laid on two of the principal streets.
