Art. 19.— All ihe concerns of the Club shall be managed by a Committee, to consist of i ii twonty-0110 members, seven orwliom shall l>o elected annually by ballot, at the General Meeting of the Club, which shall be held on the first Wednesday in March in each yeai, from whom an Executive Conmiittee of se- ven will be chosen to serve for one yenr, and to that end the said Committee shall have full power to make such Rules and Regulations from time to time as they may think fit, not inconsistent with the Constitution. Art. 20.— Of the fourteen old members who shall continue in office seven shall go out in the next year, and the remaining seven in the year after, so that no member shall remain more than three yoars on the Committee without re-election*; the members so to retire yearlv, to be selected by the Committee at some meeting previous to the date of election. Art. -21.-11 any member elected to serve on the Committee should resign, or should a death vacancy occur, the Committee shall have power to choose a qualified member to act in his stead, until the annual meeting next ensuing, when the member so chosen shall retire, but shall be eligible for re-election. Art. 22 -The Executive Committ(3e, Three of whom shall form a quorum, shall meet (»ach Wednesday at four o'clock, to transact current business. Two Auditors shall ])e elected at each Annual Meeting, who shall examine the accounts from time to time, and re])ort thereon at the next Annual Meeting. The other meeting shall be held on the Wednesday fortnight, for the purpose of deciding on such propo- sitions as may have been submitted at thi; former meeting ; and the Chair shall be taken at all meetings at four o'clock. Art. 25. — The Conniiittee shall have power at all times to convene an extraordinary meet- ing of the Club on giving fourteen days' notice, to be posted u}) during that period in the Coii'ee Room of the Club, specifying the object of such me(>ting, in the form Of a reso- lution ; at which meeting no subject shall be discussed beyond that specihed ii'i the notice. But twenty qualified members will 1)0 requi- site in order to constitute any such extraor- dinary meeting. Art. 2G.— The Club-IIousc shall be open every day for the reception of members, at Extra- ordinary Meetings. House hours. J 13 seven o'clock in the forenoon, in the summer, and at eight o'clock in the forenoon, in the winter, and shall be closed and the hghts extinguished at one a. m., except on Saturdays and Siuidays, and also upon any night when no member is in the house at that hour, when the hour of closing shall be midnight ; and no member shall be admitted into the Club after these hours on any pretence whatever, unless specially authorized by the Committee. Art. 27.— No n-. ember shall, on any pre- No profit* tence or in any manner whatsoever, receive ties, any profit, salary or emolument from the funds of the Club; nor shall any member give anv money or gratuity to any of the servants of the establishment, upon any pre- tence whatever. It being understood that this rule is not intended to preclude any member of the Club from selling property, or goods, or stocks, or other money securities to the Club, or buying any of the same from the Club. Art. 32. — All members are to pay their bills, for every expense they incur in the Club, before they leave the house. Art. 38. — No game shall on any account, be played for money, except Whist, Ecarte, Piquet, and Pool ; nor Dice used in the Club- House, except at Backgammon. No higher stake than quarter dollar points shall be played for at Whist, nor shall any bet exceed one dollar; the games of Ecarte, "Piquet, and Pool to be played for limited stakes, the li- mits to be fixed by the Committee. Art. 34. — No smoking shall be permitted in the Club-House, except in the rooms set apart for that purpose. Art. 35. — No member is on any account to bring a dog into the Club-House. Art. 36. — Any article of this constitution may be altered, amended, or suspended for any length of time, by the consent of two- thirds of the members present at any meet- ing specially convened for that purpose ; and provided such alteration, amendment or sus- pension, shall have been specified in the no- tice summoning such meeting, and that at such m.eeting twenty members at least be present. 15 4 I Aj^t. 37.— The payment of tlie subscription fee '^r' the entrance fee and subscription, shall be iiv^ld to be an acceptance of the rules and ai:^reement to comply therewith. " In the absence of the duly ap]>ointed Cliair- man, a Chairman for the day will be hrst elected, and the minutes of the last meetin,tj; haviugbeen read, the question will be put by the hairman, « cthat they be confirmed, x If the minutes be objected to by a majority of the Members present, the particular "'subject objected to will be reserved for consideration, either at'an extra- ordinary meeting as may be decided upon , and if not objected to the, then Chairman will affix his signa- ture thereto. After the disposal of the minutes of the previous meeting, all such matters as require the consideration of the Committee will be brought before them, dis cussed and decided upon. 18 For tho despatch of business, the Committee will, at each weekly meeting, appoint one of their number, to be called the " Active Committee," to superintend the ordinary business of the Club, and submit a weekly report of their proceedings. Secretary, As Secretary, he will attend all meetings of the Committees, and Active Committee — note their reso- lutions, and minute them in the books of their pro- ceedings. In all his written official connnunications, he will state expressly that they are made by direction of the Committee. Besides his attendance n[)on the Committee, he will conduct the official correspondence of the Club, draw np Reports, keep regular accounts of all the financial concerns of the Club, an account of the \\ine and other stores in the Stock Cellars of the Clul>, an ac- count with the House Steward for wines and stores delivered for the consumption of Members, and for the use of the Establishment ; examine the accounts of the Tradesmen previously to their being submitted for final adjustment, and will pay the same when passed by the Committee. He will ascertain that all goods and provisions de- livered, are in strict accordance with the orders given and correctly charged in the Tradesmen's Books, and will sign such books. He >vill attend to all communications, receive infor- 10 mation upon all sul)jects connected with the bnsiness of the Ghib, and particularly all matters relating to the Members thereof. He will submit to the Executive Committee a weekly statement of the receipts and disbursements the Club. He will place before the said Committee for the time being, the receipts fc" payments, which have been authorized by the Gei^u-arCommittee at its pre- vious meeting, witJi the exception of such as are paid directly by the Treasurer; and will pay over to the Treasurer, at least once a week, all n.oneys received bv liim. Ilouic steward. The House Steward will constantly reside in the Club House, and will have the custody of the Supply Cellar, Plate, Cutlery, China, Glass, «kc. He will have the general control and superintendence of the Servants and be responsible for their conduct and cleanly appearance, and in case of misconduct will report the same to the Secretary. He will be charged with all deficiencies which mav occur in the Stock of Vv ine, Liquors, &c., placed under his custodA'. He will account daily with the Secretary for i^ll moneys received from the Members for supplies. He will make the established charges for all Pro- visions, Wines, «kc., and cast up and receive from the Members the amount of their bills. :?0 Chief Cook. Tlio CliiorCook will have tho imraodi.ite direction of the Kitclien Department, and of th(» Assistants therein, as far as concerns the performance of their duties ;— and will prepare the daily Bill of Fare, with the concurrence of the Steward, keeping- all orders for the issue of the Kitchen Supplies for daily comparison with the Dinner Bills, it being understood that no such supplies shall be issued without an order. Hall Porter. He will enter in his book once a day the name of every Member coming into the Glub-House. Strangers caUing to see Memberc will be shown by him into the Reception Room, and intimation of their arrival immediately sent by him to the Member in- quired for, if in the house. If a letter for an absent Member be applied for by another Member, who may wish to forward it, the latter will be required to pay the postage, (if any,) and to sign an acknowledgment in tho Porter's book of his having received the latter, in case of anv future ques- tion. He will make out orders for the issue of supplies- from the Kitchen, and make himself generally useful in the Establishment in such ways as the manager or Steward may require. ^Vaiters. The Waiters, and all other servants in the Esta- n blii^huient, will l)o subject to the order of the Secre- tary and \uu\vc hiiu to the Heads of the dif!erent deparlmenls, and will perform such duties as lie or thev may iirescribe. Yardman. The Yardnian will light the Fires, saw and cleave Firewood, convey Fuel and Water at proper times to the various departments, clean knives, keep the Foot- way in front and Yard in rear of the House constantly clean, and perform all such other duties as the Secre- tary or Steward may from time to time direct. Cireiierul Servants' Regulatlon§. No officer or Servant will receive, under penalty of immediate dismissal, any resent whatever from the Members or Tradesmen of the Club ; and any Trades- man detected in giving such will be forthwith discon- tinued, and never dealt with again. No Male or Female Servant will absent himself or herself from th-: Club-House, without leave from the Secretary or Steward. No Stranger will be admitted into the Club-House, exc(^pt on business ; and the Servants are strictly pro- liibited from receiving visitors or followers. Dinner will not be served to the Servants after two o'clock P. M., except when they are prevented by duty from att;uiding at the regular hour.
