Zeal and Unanimity which you have Ihewn in maintaining the true Intercft of your Country, can only be equalled by what His Majefty has formerly experienced from this Par- liament. His Majefty has commanded us to acquaint you, that it would have given Him the moft fenfible Pleafure to have been able to communicate to you, thai His (incere Endeavours to promote a General Pacifi- cation had met with more fuitable Returns before tliis Time. His Majefty, in Conjundtion with His good Brother and Ally th? King of Fruffia^ chofe to give their Enemies Proofs of this equitable Difpofition, in the Midft of a Series of Glorious Viftoi ies ; an Opportunity the moft proper to do it vvith Dignity, and to minifcft to al4 Europe t^e Purity and Moderation of His Viev^^. After ftirch a Conduft, His Majefty has the Comfort to refleft, that the further Continuance of the Calamities of War cannot be imputed to Him, or His Allies ; and trufts in the Blefling of Heaven upon the Juftice of His Arms, and upon thofe ample Means, which your Zeal, in fo good a Caufe, has wifely put into His Hands, that His future Succefles, in carrying on the War, will not fall (hort of the part ; and that, in the Event, the Publick Tranquility will be reftorcd on folid and durable Foundations.
