All other original copies are filmed beginning on the first page with a printed or illustrated impres- sion, and ending on the last page with a printed or illustrated impression. The last recorded frame on each microfiche shall contain the symbol -^ (meaning "CON- TINUED"), or the symbol V {meaning "END"), whichever applies. Maps, plates, charts, etc., may be filmed at different reduction ratios. Those too large to be entirely included in one exposure are filmed beginning in the upper left hand corner, left to right and top to bottom, as many frames as required. J I ; s^i!m:^sj^. ^itMif^4'^.:-^s%:£i'i A plan of a cheap Vmt complete sheep barn i<< herowith given. There is provided in this structure ample storage in the loft to "arry the «hee{> through the winter. If it is found advisable, m cheap root cellar might be constructed below the feed room and lamping pen On many farms a much cheaper structure might be fully as suitable, especially if no storage is re ,n the inside ot the studs is necessary. The rafters should consist of 2x0 .nch planking, at 24 inch centres. The covering of the rafters should be one ply of inch boards covered with gooil quality cedar shingles 4A inches to the weather, or a good three-ply prepared roofing paper. 4. The divisions between the pens consist of the movable racks. No other partition is necessary. The racks should have feeding facilities ou both sides. (See Circular No. CO.) 5. The floor in the loft should be covered with one ply of 7 8-iueh matched flooring nailed lengthwise of the building. Matched flooring i* preferable to rough boards, as it keeps the fleeces of the sheep much cleaner. 0. The plan provides for plenty of windows of a convenient size. ""All windows to hinge to the window frame at the bottom and flush with the inside of the frame, and fitted with a check and catch so that thev^ may- drop inward at the top for ventilation. 7. The pen fronts against the passageway might consist of inch lum- ber, preferably with a 2x3 inch head rail. However, if desired, racks may be fitted along the front of the pen against the passageway. It will bo found convenient to have light doors entering into each of the pens. ^'^!^p3ff.^^y:^^y>'*^^ — 3— The.s« are >imply made of 7 8-inch dressed lumber with battens on he aide next the pen. 8. The sills of the doors leading from the pens to the yanl should b« of cement. This means cheokinf? out the wall 4 to (J inches at each door- way. All doors are best made of 7 S-inrh matched dressed lunilu'r, well battened. It would be found advisable to make the doorway in two •ections so that, if desired, the upper or lower half of the door might be closed as needed. Generally speakin^j, the doors ol a sheep barn might be left open all the time, except in the most severe storms. 9. \o special v«»ntilation is required for this building, as the doors and windows may be left open suHiciently tt) provide a uniform supply of fresh air. 10. It will bo found convenient to luvve meal or grain bins in the small feed room Those bins should have part of the front of eadi removable by having board sliding into a frame. It might bo found prefeiable to have a hinged cover for each of those bins ta keep the feed dean. 11. The outside of the sheep barn should bo given two coats of good paint. This might be considered extravagant l)y niaiiy farmers who do not realize the keeping prt)perties ot paint or appreciate tiie at- tractivfne".s of a well painted building, which is one of the best ;ulver- tisei.ients of a tidy, prosperous farm. Well painted buildings add very materially to the sale value of any farm and always prove an excellent investment. The interior of this barn may be whitewashed wlien neces- sary. Care, however, shoultl be taken not to use whitewjish around the racks or the lower part of the pens, where this material will get in :o the fleeces ot the sheep.
