The 7tli of 9tli Mo., 1798, the first preparative meeting of Friends io Canada, was fi^eld at the house of Philip Dorling in Adlophnstown^ Upper Canada. Committees from New York Yearly Meeting, and Nine Partners Quarterly Meeting, acting conjointly, wer3 present to assist in the es- tablishment thereof. In consequence of its re- mote situation enlarged powers were allowed the mcfetug, viz : to accomplish marriages, to deal with offenders, and to receive requests for mem- bership and to report their judgment of the cases to the Monthly Meeting. The Committee in attendance were Fry Willis, Enoch Borland, Gideon Seamon, Henry I^uU and Beuben Haight, The 29th of 1st Mo. 1801, the first Monthly Meeting was held in Friends' Meeting House, in Adolphustown. At the Monthly Meeting held at Adolphustown the 16th of 4 Mo. 1801, propositions were received and entertained for holding a Preparative Meeting at I^ingston, and a meeting for worship at West Lake. Those meetings were accordingly held under the care of a Committee. 'In 11th Mo., 1803, a Preparative Meeting was established at West Lake, near the present village of Bloomfield. .' ' At the Monthly Meeting held in 4th Mo. 1804 a meeting for worship was^ allov^ed to be held at Green Point in Sophiasbvrg, unaer the Qareof a Committee. At the Yearly Meetings cf Philadelphia and New York in 1809, Canada Half Year's Meeting was established and directed to be held alternately at West Lake and Yongo Street-^at West Lake near the last of 1st Mo. and at Youge Street the latter part of 8th Mo., to be opened in 1st Mo. 1810. ? Other meetings were established in several places. Some alternated between thriving and declining, others grow to be what they now are^ In 1841 Pelham Quarterly Meeting was es- tablished. In 1848 Yonge Street and West Lake Quar- terly Meetings were established. , Canada Yearly Meeting Was first held 1867, and continues to be held at Pickering the last 6tli day of the 6th Mo., at 10 A.
