J The city is beautifully located, overlooking the pic- turesque Harbor and Gulf Islands, and may be reached daily by rail as above or by direct steamer from Vancouver in four hours either way. Its success, of which there is now such excellent promise, is due in the Ihst place to the practical, energeiicand liberal support of the public spirited citi>'iens of Nanaiiiio. Many of these have not had the poultry fancier's keen interest to stimulate them in their efforts to proniote the Society's objects, bntbave been actuated by the broader motives tbat induce certain men of all classes always to do all they.gan to further the best interests of the community, no matter in what direction they iind those mterests can be served. The Society was orht to decline any tiitry at (liscretion The following fees must accompany all entries, otherwise no attention will be paid them : - I'"or Single Birds $ 50 each Breeding I'ens i 50 per pen Pigeons, pair 25 II. The Open Classes (for birds competing singly) shall comprise all fowls not entered as breeding pens and each entry must specify whether the specimen is a Cock, Hen, Cockerel, Pullet, Gander, (joose, Drake or Duck as the case may be. III Entries of Single Birds of Standard Varieties only, jtot intended for competition will be received at the rate of twenty-five cents for each entry two such birds to occupy one pen in every cast- Such birds must be entered in the usual way as to description price etc and will be duly scored Entries of such specimens, however must be marked "Scoring Class," and may not compete for any regular prize IV Exhibits of fresh eggs (12) produce of the exhibitor's fowls, attrac- tively arranged, with name of variety that laid them, may be entered in two classes ^white and brown) at the open class entry fee, and prizes will be awarded Similar prizes will be awarded for the heaviest and best display of dressed turkeys, geese, ducks and fowls of either sex hatched in 1893, (pluck- ed and drawn, with legs and head left on) delivered at show Wednesday evening or before 9 o'clock on Thursday morning. V. A Breeding Pen shall consist of one male any age and three females any age of the same variety, and the score of each such pen shall be obtain- ed by adding the .score of the male to the average score of the females VI. Eemales intented to occupy the same show pen must be distinguish- od from one another either by a numbered band or by a small ribbon of a different color upon the leg of each. Otherwise the Society will be at liberty to mark them and charge for doing so VII. Individual specimens in breeding pens shall .lotcompeta for regular open class prizes, but all specimens, whetliar entered in open classes or in breeding pens shall compete on the same footing for specials. VIII. Exhibitors will receive for each specimen duly entered and exhibit- ed, a score card signed by the Judge, excep* in the case of Turkeys, Ducks, Geese and non-standard varieties (see Rule IX) which will judged by comparison. IX. The latest edition of the American Standard of perfection shall, as far as it extends, govern the judging. XVI It is the intention of the Management to weigh on arrival all specimens to which weight clauses apply and to reweigh or not at the di.scretion of the judge when judging XVII No person shall be allowed to remove any specimen from the exhibition hall without permission of the Superintendent. XVIII. In classes judged by comparison the degree of merit with regard either to regular or special prizes shall be determined by the Judge alone. XIX. Protests, if any, must be in writing, and lodged at once with the Supt. who may require a cash deposit not exceeding five dollars to accompany the complaint, the amount to be forfeited in case the Committee finds such protest frivolous or made without due ground XX.
