(Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, #87) The Founda- tion was the first of its kind in the entire world, and has played a major role in generating inter- national interest and worldwide scientific re- search. The National Conference of Catholic Bishops takes this occasion to recognize with approval and appreciation the dedicated work of the Board of Directors, the Advisory Committees, and the Staff of the Human Life Foundation. We realize that those associated with the Foundation have made generous sacrifices of time, energy and personal interest to pursue the goals of the Foun- dation, and we recognize the significant achieve- ments that have resulted. The work of the Foundation is far from com- plete, and the accomplishments of the past gen- erate a new spirit of confidence and a renewal of hope for future activities. In recognition and appreciation of the work of the Foundation, we pledge our continued support, encouragement and collaboration to insure that the work so effectively begun will continue and lead to more successful achievements in the years ahead. The work of the Human Life Foun- dation, in which we are proud to have a part, will considerably advance the welfare of marriage and the family, by leading those who are skilled in the sciences—notably the medical, biological, social and psychological—to pool their efforts in perfecting the natural methods of family planning so as to explain more thoroughly the various con- ditions favoring a proper regulation of births, (c.f.
