This article reports on the extended role of the Departments Dental Care Professionals (DCPs) and the tremendous opportunity and value that temporary redeployment presented. In my job plan I do an all-day clinic at Arrowe Park Hospital. It was with great admiration that I heard the recount from Sarah and Gillian. I found it very moving especially in the context of the fear associated with the early stages of the pandemic emergency. I encouraged them to put pen to paper and I agreed to help transform their personal notes into something that could be suitable for Journal publication. I think the role of our Dental Nurses and Hygienists need to be underscored and the short article I hope will be of interest and inspiration to our colleagues and their staff. I was not sure if was best as a leading article but have submitted it as a short communication. Of course, BJOMS is our favoured first journal and if you would kindly consider the submission we would be most grateful.
