Integrating medical and psychiatric care is essential for people with mental illness and COVID-19, as the study showed, patients had a high prevalence of medical comorbidity which plays a critical role in the prognosis of COVID-19(5). Ongoing psychiatric care during admission secondary to the emergence of psychiatric symptoms was necessary, both for patients in relapse and those who were in remission of the disease, to help them cope with the effects of prolonged enforced isolation and quarantine in confined units (1, 3) . In addition, the incorporation of psychiatric nurses into the medical team was able to influence positively the results of this study, as they had specific training in psychiatric care (8, 9) . Finally, a low transfer to acute hospital was observed, which can reduce the pressure on ambulance services and hospital emergency departments during the acute phases of the pandemic (10). The study had some limitations, namely the observational design and the small number of patients included, consequently, these results should be confirmed in comparative studies with larger samples.
