However, a first step is done by the German Research Foundation aiming to increase its effort to make sustainability a greater priority within the selection of research proposals [6] . The German research community of doctors and students should take this as an imperative to scale up Global Surgery research proposals. There are myriads of opportunities to engage in Global Surgery Research, from access studies, over research on capacities to more specialized topics such as Global Cardiac Surgery. This is a call to the surgical research community, students and faculties to take chances, invest in ways to grant social topics their rightfully deserved place within science and keep on the Global Health glasses the pandemic has put on us.
