We read with great interest two clinical reports of severe coronavirus disease 2019 cases. 1, 2 Both patients had severe pneumonia and were treated with board-spectrum antibiotics due to concerns of potential (unconfirmed) bacterial coinfections. Although such practice seems to be in the best interest of individual COVID-19 patients, we would like to point out here that the massive increase in board spectrum antibiotic use in countries heavily hit by COVID-19 will create a huge selection pressure on pathogenic bacteria.
