It is a common platform for scientists, engineers, practitioners, and policy-makers who are involved in landslide disaster risk reduction to present their latest progress. The Sendai Landslide Partnerships 2015-2025 for Global Promotion of Understanding and Reducing Landslide Disaster Risk was adopted on 16 March 2015 as a voluntary commitment to the United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, held in Sendai, Japan, in 2015. It is a supporting tool for the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. In order to implement further the Sendai Landslide Partnerships 2015-2025 and pursue and enhance efforts to 2030 and beyond, the Kyoto 2020 Commitment for global promotion of understanding and reducing landslide disaster risk (KLC2020)-A Commitment to the Sendai Landslide Partnerships 2015-2025, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, the 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals, the New Urban Agenda, and the Paris Agreement-was launched by all signatory organizations at the online launching session of KLC2020 on 5 November 2020. The Fifth World Landslide Forum will be the opportunity to achieve a mid-term review of the Sendai Landslide Partnerships 2015-2025, and a 1-year review and planning of the further development strategy of KLC2020. Journal Landslides thematic issues The thematic issue "Sendai Landslide Partnerships 2015-2025" was published in October-November 2020. The thematic issue "Kyoto Landslide Commitment 2020" was to be published in October-November 2021. Note: The review process and standards for the thematic issues are identical to the regular issues of Landslides. Article categories of the thematic issues are the same as with the regular issues, namely, review papers, original papers, recent landslides, technical notes, IPL/WCoE, and News/Kyoto Commitment. Authors of the thematic issues should select in Editorial Manager during uploading their contributions: (1) Thematic issue in the step of "Select Article Type" and (2) a suitable category in the step of "Select the Section or Category." The authors of the accepted papers in the thematic issues will be invited as the invited lecturers of WLF5 for a 20-min oral presentation. Six volumes of full color books titled Understanding and Reducing Landslide Disaster Risk which are the inaugural volumes of the new ICL book series "ICL contribution to landslide disaster risk reduction" (ISSN 2662-1894 (print version) and e-ISSN 2662-1908 (electronic version)) will be published in January 2021. The six volumes of books include all accepted papers submitted to WLF5. All authors of accepted papers are invited speakers at WLF5. The printing format of electronic proceedings is one page (title/ author/office and abstract) + 5-9 pages of 2 PPT slides/page. Part 1 Japan Landslide Society Sessions 254 pages Part 2 Other sessions 238 pages WLF5 electronic proceedings will be published with ISBN number in December 2020. One-page abstract volumes (new) WLF5 in 2021 will invite speakers for one-page text-based abstract (with no figures or photos). The deadline for the session proposals is on 28 February 2021 and the submission deadline of the onepage abstract is on 30 June 2021. Acceptance will be informed to the authors by 31 July 2021. WLF5 abstract volume will be published with an assigned ISBN number. Authors can choose among (1) 10-min oral presentation, (2) no talk, or (3) non-attendance. Electronic posters E-Poster is one A0 page electronic poster file (pptx format); template can be downloaded from WLF5 website . All accepted electronic posters will be numbered and uploaded on the web for downloading by registered participants. Each poster is citable by its number of the WLF5 electronic posters. The submission deadline of electronic posters is on 30 June 2021. Acceptance will be informed to the authors by 31 July 2021. Authors can choose among (1) 3-min oral presentation, (2) no talk, or (3) nonattendance. The forum organization process including publication, registration, panel exhibition (New), and Kyoto Landslide Commitment 2020 are shown in the table below. Deadline for the thematic issue: No fixed deadline for the thematic issue "Kyoto Landslide Commitment 2020." Papers which will be accepted and published online before the end of September 2021 will be included in the thematic issue. Others, which will be accepted after the end of September 2021, will be included in the following regular issues. Deadline for one-page abstract volume: Session proposal is 28 February 2021, for abstract submission is 30 June 2021. Deadline for electronic posters: 30 June 2021. Deadline for panel exhibition: It will be closed when the applied number reaches 20. Deadline for registration: Early registration by 31 March 2021 and Normal registration by 31 July 2020. Themes of forum WLF5 parallel sessions will be organized under the following 6 themes and their coordinators. Sessions proposed for one-page abstract volume and the electronic proceedings will be organized. 9:00-9:50 Opening addresses: ICL, ICL supporting organizations and host organization 10:00-12:00 High-level panel discussion "KLC2020 review and way forward" Panelists: representatives of KLC2020 signatories 12:00-13:30 Lunch ( News/Kyoto Commitment Landslides Registrant as listeners of the special event for the World Tsunami Awareness day (5 November 2021) may participate in the symposium and panel discussion for Landslide-induced Tsunamis in Room D and also visit the Exhibition for early warning and disaster reduction technologies for landslides and flows in Room B-1. The registration to forum, field Trip, city tours, and hotel accommodation will be received by JTB Corp. Western Japan MICE Branch. Co-authors of the presenter are registered as nonspeakers. Post-forum field trip (max 30 persons) (7 to 9 November 2021) Field trip to urban landslides in Hiroshima, landslide-induced tsunami in Unzen volcano, and earthquake-induced landslides in Kumamoto will be organized on 7-9 November 2021. 1st day in Hiroshima (7 November 2021) Start from Kyoto by Shinkansen: Urban landslide disasters triggered by local extreme rainfalls. World Cultural Heritage "Itsukushima Shrine," and "Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park" (Stay in Hiroshima). 2nd day in Unzen (8 November 2021) From Hiroshima to Kumamoto by Shinkansen and to Unzen-Shimabara by bus and ferry: 1792 Unzen-Mayuyama megaslide by an earthquake and caused big Tsunami disaster. Visit to Unzen Volcanic Area Global Geopark, Unzen Disaster Memorial Hall (Stay in Unzen Hot Spring). Video of 1991 Pyroclastic flow: Landslide simulation (LS-RAPID): Tsunami simulation (LS-Tsunami): 3rd day (9 November 2021) From Unzen Hot Spring to the Shimabara port by bus and ferry to Kumamoto (observation from the ferry to Unzen volcano and megaslide): Visit to the landslides induced by the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake in the Aso caldera area. Leave from Kumamoto Station/Airport to Osaka by railway, or from Kumamoto airport to Osaka, Tokyo or others. 000 USD or 300,000 JPY) are called for. The representative of each organization is invited to attend all sessions, the reception, and lunches throughout the WLF5. The ICL President will p resent his sincere appreciation for their supports at the closing ceremony.
