The use of virtual simulation platforms amongst surgical trainees has attempted to reduce the knowledge deficit created by COVID-19 4 . With subsequent delays in training the exposure to different specialities and associated skill sets has been missed. Virtual learning and simulation has been utilised to engage and acquaint trainees with specialist programs though it cannot replace the practical experience and fulfil the procedural quotas needed by most 4 . High fidelity simulation delivered to OMFS students has been shown to significantly improve knowledge and also to increase interest in speciality and confidence in carrying out procedures by 58% 5 . This demonstrates the benefits of simulated teaching in skill-based specialities as an engaging educational adjunct. Our experience of virtual teaching found that one of the key benefits is The future integration of pre-recorded material is likely to continue and serve as an adjunct, however for skilled based specialities technology is yet to offer an effective solution to the needs of training cohorts of future surgeons. The key to learning is engagement and this is reflected in the variety of learning styles and we should look to provide virtual classes as a supplement to those whose learning styles it suits. Further work should evaluate the scope and range of learning styles amongst plastic surgeons.
